Image problems
[edit]I've been reviewing your recent uploads and note some copyright and author issues. There are many stamp and drawing images all of which you claim to be your own work. Well the stamps were certainly not designed by you, so it is not truthful to state you are the author, you either just scanned or photographed them, so you should state that. If the stamps designers or engravers are known you should add that information. The more recent drawing images look like you copied them from a book. Who made the illustrations and what is the copyright status of the book? You applied a {{PD-IsraelGov}} license but state the work is your; it cannot be both, so I doubt the copyright tag applies unless they are government works, in which case you were likely not the author, so this needs to be fixed. Maybe the images come from an older drawing that is in the public domain but your information is not sufficient to determine that. Please reply here and ping me when you reply. - Ww2censor Hi, All the illustrations I have uploaded are my work. They were taken from two free sources: 1. An old etching from 1741 which was republished by Israel Post in 1960. 2. A Souvenir Sheet issued by Israel Post in 1960.
- I did all the graphic work of cutting the individual pictures from these sources.
- I gave credit to the Israel Post for the original works, and I wrote that the graphic work is my work. If it does not fit, What should I write down?RimerMoshe (talk) 11:21, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- I changed the source of all the stamps' records to - My Collection. RimerMoshe (talk) 13:09, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- Ww2censor, I changed the source of all the illustrations I took from the Israeli stamps, according to the guidance I received from Wikipedia consultants. RimerMoshe (talk) 14:30, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for the replies. I think you have pretty well fixed everything quite well and now understand that unless you actually designed the stamps or made the original illustration, you are not the author but are making a derivative work, even if you make some basic changes. A "slavish copy" does not obtain a new copyright just because you photograph or scan it. Personally I would link the author of government works to their own article, in whatever language seems appropriate, such as w:Israel Postal Company, or so other non-Hebrew readers can find it more easily, maybe link to the Hebrew page and another language.
- Do you have a link to an on line source for the illustration used in the 1960 souvenir sheet? I can't find one. In that image File:Stamps of Israel - Souvenir Sheet - Taviv.jpg you linked to the main domain page of a stamp catalogue but not to the image. I found the image but it is a different serial number but I added the link and uploaded the actual image from that link. If you have an online link to the serial number you uploaded, them maybe change the link and revet to your image. Either way it is now much better. So Thanks for all the work.
- Sometimes, when images are extracted from an other image, they will create an actual gallery of the extracted images on the main page to show the several images from the original which other editors would otherwise not know exist. I've no idea what you intend using all those extracted image for but that's a different matter entirely. Good luck. Ww2censor (talk) 14:31, 26 March 2018 (UTC)
