Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy. More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Hi Patche99z, thanks for uploading the pictures of the UK 2008 penny, however the laws of the UK mean that all coins of the UK are subject to Crown Copyright that lasts for 50 years. If you look at the en:wiki article pictures for UK coins you will see that all existing coins are used there under fair use, a provision not appliciable to Commons. Where possible load the images directly to the wiki in which you want to use the images or where this is not possible e.g. es wiki you could attempt an interwiki link to en wikis version of the image (this would mean that you wouldn't be able to display the image but would be better then nothing). Again thanks--KTo288 (talk) 00:24, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Copyright
[edit]A useful reference is in File:Kew Rail Bridge underside.JPG. The relevant part says:
- Photograph taken in a public location in the UK of a building on permanent public display, and exempt from copyright under Section 62 of the Copyright Designs & Patents Act 1988 ("it is not an infringement of copyright to film, photograph, broadcast or make a graphic image of a building, sculpture, models for buildings or work of artistic craftsmanship if that work is permanently situated in a public place or in premises open to the public")
More wanted
[edit]Listen, cobber. Get yourself a few miles upstream and give us more pictures of Richmond. I've just used your composite of Richmond Green (north) in the Wiki article 'Richmond', but the southern half of the Green is more interesting - with Maids of Honour Row, the old Palace entrance etc. We need that, but I guess we will have to wait for winter - to get the leaves out of the way. Also wanted are shots of the best parts of the Richmond end of Richmond Park, of Old Deer Park, and of interesting features and propertie along the riverside (but not of the river itself). My family moved to Richmond in 1939, when I was one year old. I know the town intimately, as I do Chiswick, where I both studied and worked. But I live miles away now.
The nearest I've been to Australia is San Diego. I'll never make it all the way there now. JB--BHJ (talk) 08:57, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
