Welcome
Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Tip: Categorizing images
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.BotMultichillT (talk) 06:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Apc.org_website.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Apc.org_website.png ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

File:Www.iyv2001.org_website.png has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.
The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.) Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

question for administrators
i have uploaded the following screenshots to commons for my wikibook A Guidebook for Managing Telecentre Networks: Engineering a New Phase of the Telecentre Movement. but they are saying that it has a license problem .
i need your help for the appropriate licensing .
- Hi, creating a screenshot is a derivative work based on someone else work. The software or website or content you create a screenshot from must be generally freely licensed by the copyright holder or you need the copyright holders written permission to use this individual screenshot under a free license. --Martin H. (talk) 06:44, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
- Additional File:Congde.org website.png is already licensed. The website is licensed under CC-by-NC-sa, so you are free to reuse and modify the content for all non-commercial purposes as long as you credit the author and publish every new or modified copy under a similar license. So you can not upload the image under cc-by or GFDL here, you must upload it under a cc-by-nc-sa license - however, the nc term (non-commercial) is not allowed on Commons, so you first need the copyright holder's written permission. --Martin H. (talk) 06:47, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
- Again: "Non-Commercial use", at this time, and eversince, does not comply with ruleZ on COM. Sorry about that. [w.] 19:19, 29 November 2009 (UTC)
thanks for the help. the APC permit me to use the image . i have forwarded that email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org but they have not replied yet.
- i have sent a email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org 3days ago but they have not replied yet. any one can tell me what should i do ?
- is there any active ADMIN here? i have sent a email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org more than a week ago. they are not replying then can any one tell me from where i can get the image token ?Nasir Khan Saikat (Talk|Contributions) 04:37, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
- There is an backlog at the OTRS, my last email took 1 month. I mark your image as OTRS pending to have the email confirmed. Please always use the OTRS system, maybe the email writer objects to have his personal data and writing disclosed at User:Nasir8891/photopermissions. --Martin H. (talk) 18:23, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:A_description_of_a_telecentre_ecosystem.png ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Copyright violations
Hello Nasirkhan.
You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful. This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions. |

Files you uploaded may be deleted
The files listed below, which you uploaded, have been tagged OTRS pending for more than 30 days. This tag indicates that an email setting out permission to use the file was sent to the OTRS team. Unfortunately, we cannot find any record that such an email has been received, and accordingly the file remains without permission. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. If you have not sent the permission, please send it to "permissions-commonswikimedia.org" now. Please quote the file name in your email. If you have, please leave a message at the OTRS noticeboard, quoting the file name, so that a volunteer can follow this up. Alternatively, you can contact an OTRS volunteer directly. Please note that this message is being left by an automated bot, whose operator is not an OTRS volunteer, therefore please do not send this information to me, as it will not save your images from deletion. Thanks for your time! Please help translate this message! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 01:53, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
