Thanks for uploading Image:Russian billiards table markup arrows.png. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use GFDL-self to release it under the GFDL or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. iGEL (talk) 15:12, 4 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for paying attention. No need for any measures. This is another version of the Image:Russian billiards table markup.png created by me and uploaded under GFDL. The license options box failed to work properly this time. Cheers, Alexei Kouprianov 15:35, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

The scans of book covers are copyrighted by the publisher, and are, therefore not allowed on Commons for books less than 100 years old. Regards, Yann 11:34, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I feel so much better now. I guess, I'll contact the publisher and ask them for permission to use the image of the historical book covers (say, published before 1970s -- I do not remember important books since) on our conditions. There are few Wikipedians in the St Petersburg State University (I'm among them), and we'll find a way to the University Publishers. As soon as I secure a permission, I'll be back with Lobashev's book covers. See you. Alexei Kouprianov 17:45, 19 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Alexei Kouprianov, at the Geocoding project we have noticed that you uploaded a number of pictures from one of the less covered regions on earth. Maybe you could consider adding coordinates to some of your images. They will show up on the WikiMiniAtlas and the Google Earth Commons-layer. You can find instructions on how to add coordinates to your images at Commons:Geocoding. Thank you in advance! The Geocoding team --EugeneZelenko 14:53, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your consideration. I hope one day I'll get hold of my GPS again (lended to some friends), so I'll be able to add the coordinates. Alexei Kouprianov 19:45, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed this image in the New Images stream and was wondering if it would be possible to put the User pages of the people in that image in the description. Honestly, I don't even know if it is appropriate or encouraged but I would have liked to know who is who there.

Thanks -- carol 14:24, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

And more. My friend said that he heard that there is not such a tradition in Russia to fish (with a string and a hook) in the fresh inland waters there.
If photographs are fishes, I caught me a great big one today in the fresh waters of the Russian commons. It should be a good day today. -- carol 14:45, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Dear carol, (1) I surely can identify all the participants, however I'll have to do it a bit later, probably tomorrow (for I have a lot of work in my real life, which was postponed due to the conference). (2) Well, your friend is wrong. There surely is a tradition of fishing with a string and a hook in the inland fresh waters, though it differs in some details. Moreover, some people prefer nets, especially when they fish for food or sale. (3) The fish isn't probably big, though valuable (this is the first Wiki-Conference in Russia and we hope to make it an annual event). Alexei Kouprianov 15:08, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Please don't belittle my beautiful big fish, there were some beautiful faces there. The photograph feels real. In my project, they take the group photographs down from the web site sometimes. I don't understand this and it makes me very sad. Thanks again! -- carol 18:21, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Calliphora vicina vs. vomitoria?

[edit]

Dear Alexei, the ID was once provided through Diptera.info --- Surely they aren't all-knowing :-) Fell free to change the description. Thanks for your help. Richard --Richard Bartz (talk) 11:55, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Richard, thank you for your response. I am not sure myself but the fly definitely does not match the diagnosis. The whole turmoil is due to the fact that this is one of the "images of the day", so (as a member of the project 'Biology' at Ru:Wiki and a former entomologist) I was challenged to write an entry on C. vicina for Russian Wikipedia. Drafting it I had to dig a bit deeper into the identification manuals I had at hand, thus I came to these contradictions. Unfortunately flies are notoriously hard to identify and I would not dare to do it without a couple of specimens and an expert in a particular family or a particular local fauna. What I am sure about is that this is definitely not C. vicina. A positive identification is still wanted. Alexei Kouprianov (talk) 00:29, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it isn't Calliphora all ? Richard --85.181.39.249

  • То же самое и с другой фотографией, File:Olga lepeshinskaia 01.jpg. --Blacklake (talk) 08:48, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alexei Kouprianov (talk) 09:21, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
--Blacklake (talk) 09:28, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Immanuel Wallerstein

[edit]

Hi Alexei, I am researching photos for a book by a semi-retired college prof who is self publishing his work. It's not a "share alike" but it's also not likely to be a money making project. He is just wanting to put his thoughts into a book and possibly use it for lectures. I was wondering if you would permit your photo of Wallerstein (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Immanuel_Wallerstein.2008.jpg) to be used as a simple "CC-by" rather than a "share alike" for such a project? You can email me at pat@EditorialCoffee.com or respond here. Many thanks for any help! Pat

Hello, Alexei Kouprianov!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

about a photo in Falun Gong category

[edit]

Hi,

It´s only about one photo that you posted on the Falun Gong category.

Falun Gong is a qigong and cultivation practice for mind and body practised all over the world. This photo http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:RuWiki.Confer.20071028.Falun_Gong.jpg shows four people attending a kind of class but there is nothing related to Falun Gong in the photo.

I suggest to remove the photo from the category of Falun Gong. Thank you very much.

Alexei Kouprianov (talk) 23:08, 18 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can't see how the changes you made improve the situation and what your 'necessary translation' means. Neither understand I how your multi-language .svg is supposed to work. As for me, it does not, for it shows the English-language version only. Alexei Kouprianov (talk) 08:13, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
