Not yet public domain, https://web.law.duke.edu/cspd/publicdomainday/2025/ lists this film as "entering the public domain in 2025", which is a week away. File was also uploaded to Commons by a now globally locked LTA block evader (Category:Sockpuppets of Oatsandcream), an occasional hoaxer who makes false claims about lost film footage, so this may not be an entirely faithful copy of the film. By the time this is decided, it will be pretty close to or will be 2025, thereby I say just leave it, and not use it on anything until January 1st. FreidrichHandlebar (talk) 20:30, 24 December 2024 (UTC) (Nota bene FreidrichHandlebar has been blocked as a sockpuppet of the file uploader)[reply]
Commons only hosts freely licenced content. It doesn't also host currently-copyrighted content with a request that people don't use it "on anything" until after a certain date.
But even after 1 January, this file was uploaded by an LTA block evader who's repeatedly uploaded unreliable video edits of Marx Brothers content in the past (eg. this DR) as well as outright hoaxes: they falsely claimed that File:Groucho the Cigar Man.jpg (apparently their own drawing) was a vintage Marx Brothers comic. Unless somebody wants to watch this whole upload start to finish and vouch for it, we don't know that Oatsandcream hasn't edited a section of the video file to support some private joke or hoax.
Once the film is in the public domain, Commons should take a copy from a trustworthy source. And also one that doesn't have a modern Universal Pictures ident animation at the start. Belbury (talk) 11:23, 26 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Speedy delete?????? SnowyCinema (talk) 21:32, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I initially flagged it for speedy deletion as a copyvio but User:Yann rejected this request saying Not a copyright violation. If you disagree, nominate for deletion. Unclear to me why it is not a copyright violation. Belbury (talk) 22:05, 27 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can vouch for this being authentic, and since it is only 4 days away from 2025,I think we can leave it and use it on a wiki on Wednesday after it is officially PD. My only concern is that can find a copy without the Universal logo, but maybe someone can edit that out later.FreidrichHandlebar (talk) 01:48, 28 December 2024 (UTC) (Nota bene FreidrichHandlebar has been blocked as a sockpuppet of the file uploader)[reply]
Comment I would not upload it before January 1st, but now that it is here, there is no point to delete it, and undelete it in a few days. Yann (talk) 10:19, 28 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure it's accurate? DS (talk) 19:36, 30 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Keep now, since we're about 24 hours out only from Jan 1. I'm about to upload a trimmed version that takes out the copyrighted Universal sequence at the beginning of this file and then it should be good to go. (I'm working off the original from IA, so even if there was prank material in the middle in this version, my file wouldn't be affected by it.) SnowyCinema (talk) 04:38, 31 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I withdraw my nomination now that it actually is 2025, and that SnowyCinema has uploaded a clean version without the Universal intro. (Many thanks for doing so!) Belbury (talk) 12:59, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Kept: no valid reason for deletion. --Yann (talk) 17:24, 1 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
