Empty category, only used for hoax material by User:Sibinia. Silesian (to the extent that it is a separate language at all) never was a written language, so we wouldn't expect manuscript images to exist. Fut.Perf. ☼ 09:53, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
- Could you explain Category:Silesian text? - Themightyquill (talk) 08:52, 6 October 2021 (UTC)
- Not sure what's there to explain? Category:Silesian text contains a handful of Wikipedia graphics and computer screenshots where people have localized captions or software UIs in Silesian – which is of course legitimate. But the "manuscripts" category are for historical material, and if any historical manuscript ever was produced in such a language, we don't have an image of it. 'French fries' are a subset, not the main type. They are typically the narrower version that you might find in fast food places; you wouldn't call the normal types of chips 'french fries'. From a British perspective, this category should just be moved to Category:Chips - but perhaps Category:Fries might be more international? Starting this discussion to see what others think! Mike Peel (talk) 19:40, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
- I don't understand what you have in mind. French fries are a subset of Category:Fried potatoes and are categorized as such. The wikipedia is at en:French fries because it's unambiguous. refus obstiné et répété de se conformer aux règles de nommage (usage du pluriel) et vandalisme répété sur la catégorie correctement nommée : Iberian horses Finoskov (talk) 22:30, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
Comment This user is, falsely accusing others (i.e. me) of vandalism) but he "forgot" to mention that is he that has tried to move this category from singular to plural (nominating the singular one to speedy deletion and altering the wikidata item), despite what was showed in the above discussion and other similar categories being named in the singular. Clearly this category is the right one per Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard/User_problems/Archive_93#Conflit_avec_User:Tm, where the majority of similar categories are in horse and not horses, per comments of others on the same page, the articles in Català, Español, Français, Italiano, Română and Svenska are in singular as well as the wikidata item.
- Besides articles in several Wikipedias being in singular as "ca Cavall ibèric", "es Caballo ibérico" "fr Cheval ibérique", "it Cavallo ibericoro", "Cal iberic" and "sv Spansk häst" there are several sources that call this the iberian horse like an an magazine specialized in the Iberian horse is called Iberian Horse Magazine and this magazine is made by the International Andalusian & Lusitano Horse Association, so the name, present in several languages is in singular, not plural, as this category that has existed since at least 2018.
- Besides the sources i provided to the singular, and zero sources provided to the plural case, here in commons he have in Category:Horse breeds by name, there is only 4 categories that use the plural, 17 that use the "(horse)", 38 that use "Horse" and around 115 that use "horse". In Category:Extinct horse breeds no "horses", 12 variations of "horse". In type of Category:Draft horses, related with specific type of draft horse, one "horses" (Category:Brewery draft horses) and 22 "horse". So, in Wikimedia Commons, in similar cases of horses, 5 cases with the use of plural and around 204 uses of singular, i.e 1 plural to 40 singular, i.e. a clear use of singular and not an "refus obstiné et répété de se conformer aux règles de nommage (usage du pluriel) et vandalisme répété sur la catégorie correctement nommée". I am considering spinning off a category titled "+ in logos" or something along those lines. I am looking for feedback on what that category should be called... "+ in logos", "+ signs in logos"? Astros4477 (talk) 18:54, 22 October 2021 (UTC)

- No insult to anyone but Category:+ is just needlessly obtuse. I say change it to Category:Plus sign and then create Category:Logos of the plus sign or something like that. , that is disengenious — Category:de (Latin surname particle) was exactly created to cover the Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Catalan onomastic particle "de" (and even Latin, i.e. ancient Roman, if need be). Having a separate category for Italian as opposed to other romance languages seems to hinder more than it helps. -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 09:21, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hm, I just noticed that this new category is categorized with Category:Articles (grammar) (categorization likely copied from the sibling Category:de (Germanic surname particle)), which is utter nonsense. Italian "de" (as used in onomastics) is very much not an article ("the"), but a preposition ("of"). I call for a swift resolution of this matter by deleting this category and and recategorizing its subcats into Category:de (Latin surname particle). -- Tuválkin ✉ ✇ 09:27, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

Please rename this page to Joshua Otis Turner. Since there is another Josh Turner (Joshua Lee Turner, b. 1992), who is also an American singer-songwriter and musician. Fons den Dekker (talk) 14:23, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
Weak support the views are much higher for this one than the rugby union player[[1]] but the threshold is higher here and there appear to be other people. I'd suggest moving to Category:Josh Turner (singer, born 1977) because we generally don't use middle names to disambiguate unless they're common enough. Crouch, Swale (talk) 12:47, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
Weak support rugby player is inferior. The other singer has also category in Commons: category:Joshua Lee Turner--Estopedist1 (talk) 12:44, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

The description of this category specifies that it includes content from both the University of California, Berkeley, and the surrounding city. The category should be merged into Category:University of California, Berkeley and Category:Berkeley, California as appropriate. Mysterymanblue 08:04, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- I definitely agree. Even if it didn't have combined content, this is not a good category name. For what it's worth, UC Berkeley is often called "Cal Berkeley". --Auntof6 (talk) 08:10, 27 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, the name is no good either. "Cal Berkeley" is what some people call "UC Berkeley", but it is neither the most common nor an officially recognized nickname for the school. Mysterymanblue 10:11, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

delete because empty, name should only be Marsetio Regards, Jeromi Mikhael (marhata) 04:55, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- recommend converting empty category into redirect since all previous contents have been moved to Category:Marsetio and thirteen of the twenty photographs there refer to the subject as Adm. Dr. Marsetio. – Maliepa (talk) 15:26, 28 October 2021 (UTC)
- Delete Category:Dr. Marsetio, and no need for redirecting. Enwiki also hasn't redirect en:Dr. Marsetio for en:Marsetio. Name using at the file description is weak argument. Noticing @Maliepa: --Estopedist1 (talk) 13:04, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

rename to Category:OpenStreetMap maps of cities in Canada in order to fit country-map naming scheme? Enyavar (talk) 12:06, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

The abbreviation OJSC used in the title is the English translation of a Russian term for publicly traded company (ПАО PAO or OAO) which as such is neither obvious to English speakers (OJSC is nowhere explained) and even less to nor to non-English speakers.
This category ought to be renamed either simply Russian Railways to use the more common company name RZD Zenwort (talk) 07:24, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
Support enwiki also uses the name en:Russian Railways, hence category:Russian Railways--Estopedist1 (talk) 09:10, 14 November 2021 (UTC)

PAUL = patronyme, Hermann = troisième prénom devenu prénom d'usage et il existe une catégorie correctement nommée elle-même soumise à discussion et vidée de tout fichier alors qu'elle me parait la seule valable. Finoskov (talk) 17:00, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Finoskov: enwiki article is en:Hermann-Paul. Can someone sees here any problem? French comment seems fuzzy, when trusting Google Translate--Estopedist1 (talk) 09:33, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- Apparently he was born René Georges Hermann Paul (so Paul - family name, Hermann - third name), but called himself Hermann-Paul. We could make a redirect at Category:René Georges Hermann Paul for completeness' sake, but I don't think it's necessary. --rimshottalk 23:04, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Is it useful to separate Category:Cloister yards from Category:Cloisters since most (if not all) images will include both? Themightyquill (talk) 08:12, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Themightyquill: Here -> Category:Cloister yard, Sé de Lisboa it was useful, as the purpose was to identify the specific space limited by the cloister, and not the cloister properly (which includes that space, but also the corridors, colonnades, etc.-- Darwin Ahoy! 12:10, 31 October 2021 (UTC)
Keep: I want to keep this category (and its sub categories). Cloister yards should be seperated from cloisters. My reasons:
- Indeed, to identify the specific space within a cloister, especially when there are (too) many files in the main category.
- To be able to specify court yards of different types of buildings (Category:Courtyards by building function) and cloisters is one of them.

There has already been the Category:Locator maps of corporate facilities, for which I created a new subcategory Category:World maps locating corporate facilities. This category only had three images, none of which showed an actual world map, so I moved them to the first named above. Please consider all three categories: Is there a better naming/structure that may be used for these kind of enterprise maps? Enyavar (talk) 01:21, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
