Please note: Numbering of the Psalms differs — mostly by one digit, see tables — between the Hebrew (Masoretic) and Greek (Septuagint) manuscripts. Usage varies by tradition:

  • very early Protestant publications such as the 1524 Erfurt Enchiridion;
  • Catholic ancient liturgical books (Roman Missals, Books of Hours, etc.);
  • Eastern Orthodox translations;
  • Peshitta tradition of the Syriac Orthodox Church (further recognizes five extra psalms — see en:Psalm 151 and en:Psalms 152–155).
  • all traditions of Judaism;
  • most Protestant translations (Lutheran, Anglican, Calvinist);
  • modern Catholic Bible editions and books of liturgy, often indicating in brackets the Septuaginta/Vulgata numbering.

In categorizing, the Hebrew numbering should be used.
