Appearance
English: The bittereinders or bitter-enders, strictly speaking refer to the 21,256 boer combatants in the Second Boer War who managed to evade death or capture till the end of the war, when they mostly surrendered. Included here are also combatants who died near the end of the war, and Cape rebels who were jailed as peace came. Bittereinders are not identical with the irreconcilables, who as prisoners of war, refused to become subjects of the British Empire.
