English: Azoth (from Arabic az-zā'ūq meaning mercury), regarded by alchemists as the assumed first principle of all metals. The Rebis is the end product of alchemical stages, the separating and uniting of opposing qualities, in what is sometimes described as the divine hermaphrodite.
