Jane Read is the wife of David, and the mother of Arthur, D.W. and Kate from Marc Brown's book series, Arthur, and the PBS Kids animated series based on them. She works as a full-time work-at-home tax accountant.
In Arthur's Perfect Christmas, Jane and the rest of the Read family are shown getting ready for Christmas. She and Arthur do Christmas shopping at the Elwood City Mall and was unable to buy the new popular toy Tina the Talking Tabby for D.W. due to being sold out and covers the fact in front of D.W. to avoid disappointment. On Christmas Day, it was revealed that Jane instead bought D.W. a talking toy duck called Quackers which D.W. immediately likes.
