The Lost One is bound by a curse times three.

Which can be broken by the Bowl of Unity.
Once risen, the Lost One will exert its power.
The magical world changing within an hour.

— Pam[src]

Inara, also known as the Lost One, was an ancient witch who became the middle sister of the first sisterhood of the Charmed Ones after Ishta, Ishani, and herself drank from the Unity Bowl in order to defeat the first Conqueror. Eventually, Inara grew power-hungry and was entombed alive by the other two Charmed Ones for millennia. She would be unbound and freed in 2022 by the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones, who recreated an ancient ritual to resurrect her. She eventually came to her senses and sacrificed herself, along with her sisters, to save the magical world from destruction after having put it in jeopardy, but not before they reconciled their sisterly bond.

Inara was a witch with heightened abilities, due to her being a previous Charmed One. Aside from her basic witch abilities (casting spells and brewing potions), Inara also had the ability to generate and control electricity and the ability to gain information about an object, person, location, or event through means other than the known human senses. Furthermore, she could also access the Power of Three, the collective power of the Charmed Ones. However, she had long since lost access to the Power of Three, when Ishta and Ishani entombed her alive and began the cycle of destruction for generations of the Charmed Ones to come.

History[]

Early Life[]

Ten thousand years ago, during the time of either the 8th or 9th millennium B.C.[3], when magic was everywhere, Inara joined with two other witches, Ishta and Ishani. Together, they drank from the Unity Bowl and became the first Charmed Ones in order to defeat the first Conqueror, a power-hungry mortal who wanted to steal all magic for himself.[4] As a fail-safe in the event where the Power of Three failed to stop him, they also created the Nebron Root Bomb to destroy his magic, though they managed to defeat him without resorting to the bomb. After their battle, the first Conqueror and the first Charmed Ones were remembered in legend. However, Inara and her fellow Charmed Ones also drifted apart as they no longer had a common purpose, for while they chose to become Charmed, they never chose to be sisters.

Eventually, Inara wanted to restore the stolen power of the Conqueror, to put magic everywhere. Ishta and Ishani disagreed, knowing it would continue to create temptation for another Conqueror to rise. So, they combined the power in one place and hid it so no one could find it, thus creating the Source. However, the argument tore the Charmed Ones apart, with Inara growing power-hungry and wanting to take on the Source's power for herself, which resulted in Ishta and Ishani entombing her alive south of Baghdad in the Akahtu Mines, at the cost of betraying their sisterhood and creating a vicious cycle of destruction. Ishta was bound to the Black Amber Tree to serve as its guardian following her death, acting as surveillance in hopes of meeting future Charmed Ones to help them break the cycle, while Ishani was forced to wander the Earth alone for all eternity, watching events play out from the sidelines.[2]

Despite eventually dying, Inara's spirit was kept imprisoned within her tomb. Throughout the eons of entombment, she watched as the world changed around her. Inara had witnessed the rise and fall of the Charmed Ones through the years, how they came together but never managed to break the cycle.

Between 2021 and 2022, Nolan Moore was murdered by his unstable brother in their family home. His corpse was embalmed and remained in the house for many months while his ghost fell into the Veil for his unfinished business. At some point, Inara took advantage of Nolan's death to inhabit his corpse and began to influence his brother to make him do what she wants.[1]

Throughout the Series[]

In "Breaking the Cycle", Inara and Ishani were indirectly mentioned by the Guardian as she explained to the Vera-Vaughn Charmed Ones about the Destruction of the Sisterhood.

In "Unsafe Space", Inara and her fellow Charmed Ones were briefly mentioned when Celeste discussed her concerns with Harry Greenwood about Julian Shea being the new Conqueror.

In "Someone's Going to Die", Ishani and her fellow Charmed Ones were referenced when the Vera-Vaughn Charmed Ones recalled the Conqueror's story, as well as the Guardian's warning about the Power of Three ending with the destruction of the sisterhood.

In "Unlucky Charmed", the first Charmed Ones were mentioned during Kaela's history lesson about the rise of the first Conqueror from Harry Greenwood. This is also the first time that their names are directly mentioned.

In "Cats and Camels and Elephants, oh my…", Maggie Vera received a vision of Sunny brewing a potion and unleashing some type of smoky monster. Later, while in the Veil, Harry and Maggie learned from the Guardian, revealed to be one of the first Charmed Ones, that the Unseen were attempting to resurrect an evil entity known as "the Lost One." This being had brought about the end of her sisterhood and started the destruction cycle of the rest. It is also revealed that the Lost One had previously been taking possession of the Tallyman's older brother, Nolan Moore, in order to converse and plot with the gremlin. That evening, in Northern Iran, Sunny prepared the brew to resurrect the Lost One, adding Mel Vera's blood, Maggie's hair, and Kaela Danso's severed thumb. The Vera-Danso Charmed Ones locate her hideout and arrive to stop the ritual. Sunny fought with Maggie, who managed to mimic Sunny's powers and accidentally killed her with her claws. Sunny self-resurrected hours later and was devastated by her failure. The Lost One then came to her as a disembodied voice to reassure her that there will be other ways to resurrect him.

In "Truth or Cares", TBA

In "Hashing It Out", TBA

In "Divine Secrets of the O.G. Sisterhood", various members of the Unseen used a stolen Book of Shadows to recreate the Unity Bowl after the original was placed into the Tomb of Chaos. Maggie was approached by the pixie, Chloe Periwinkle, who was afraid that her sister, Daphne, was in danger after finding a note from her about joining the Unseen. Maggie used a spell to enter Daphne's memories, where she was shocked to see the recently deceased Annie approaching Daphne. Annie told Daphne that the Lost One would help them, but this was revealed to be a manipulation by the Lost One, as the Annie imposter was able to see through Maggie's spell and trapped her within Daphne's memory—though Maggie was able to escape by mimicking Daphne's wings after being talked through how to channel the power by Chloe. Meanwhile, Kaela was ambushed by Ishani while attempting to leave Seattle and found out that the Lost One was really Inara. She later joined Mel and Maggie at the ancient mines, warning them in time as Inara was resurrected due to the sacrifice of various members of the Unseen. Before the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones could use the Power of Three against her, Inara drank from the bowl and reclaimed the power for herself, promptly smashing the bowl on the ground and magically remaking the world to her liking.

In "Be Kind. Rewind.", Inara was known as the Charmed One and had made Earth exclusive for magical beings to live out in the open, while all humans were literally turned into various trees and other plants. She had also taken away the Vera-Danso sisterhood's powers and memories but kept a close eye on them at SafeSpace, Seattle, where they all work for her. When they got their memories back, Harry told them that it had been eight months to a year since Inara's resurrection. Although he admitted that he'd lost track of the actual timeline of events. They devised a plan to get their powers back by stealing Inara's blood, infiltrating the Command Center, and accessing the black amber from the Black Amber Tree. Inara eventually found out that Jordan had his memories back and contained him within the Command Center, torturing him with her electrokinesis until she was later able to determine that the Vera-Danso sisters were up to something. The sisters' plan worked by causing a ruckus in SafeSpace and getting Inara out of the Command Center. However, the sisters were ambushed with an electrokinetic attack by a returning Inara before they could use their newly reacquired Power of Three, resulting in Mel being gravely injured by a shard of glass. Jordan assisted Kaela in placing a containment spell around himself and Inara, resulting in the woman killing him with her powers in a violent burst of energy. Maggie watched in horror, but Mel informed her that they could still save the present and instructed Maggie to mimic her time power. Mel then died, but Maggie and Kaela are able to escape through a portal to the Vera Manor with the help of Harry, who is then subsequently killed by Inara after breaking the containment. At Vera Manor, Kaela manifested a VHS tape with all of their memories of the last year, and Maggie was successfully able to send the tape back in time to a pivotal point in history—Dev's memorial service—before Inara arrived at the manor and killed the both of them. The tape arrived at Vera Manor during the time of Dev's memorial, where it was found by Joséfina Reyes, who was in a hurry and late.

In "The End Is Never The End", due to Joséfina showing them the VHS tape, the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones were able to stop the Unseen from raising Inara and obtained the stolen Book of Shadows and the recreated bowl from the troll before it could be used. However, the troll told them that it would all soon be over and promptly killed himself using the Tallyman's explosive elixir. It was later revealed that Inara had the troll activate the Nebron Root, which would destroy all of the magic in the world and every magical being along with it. Seeing no other choice or alternative, the Vera-Danso sisters used the brew to raise her themselves. Inara reunited with her own "sisters," but refused to help them as she believed them to be insincere. As they argued, Mel stepped in and shamed Ishta's, Inara's, and Ishani's legacy as "the sisterhood that ruins the world." At this, the three original Charmed Ones finally saw sense and sacrificed themselves in the Vera-Danso sisterhood's place to save the entire magical world, having a spiritual and emotional reconciliation as they did so.

Personality[]

Inara was described as a power-hungry witch, with little to no remorse for those she hurt if it meant achieving her goals.

Physical Appearance[]

Inara had black hair, dark brown eyes, and olive-toned skin.

Powers and Abilities[]

Basic Powers
Active Powers
  • Electrokinesis: The ability to generate and control electricity. Inara was able to manipulate the voltage of her power, ranging from enough to torture someone to so powerful that she can literally cause a person to explode in a violent burst of energy or shatter the Containment Spell from inside.
  • Voice Manipulation: The ability to change one's voice. Inara was able to make her voice deeper and more menacing.
Passive Powers
  • Immunity: Being a witch, Inara was inherently immune to certain magical abilities (e.g. the sirens' songs and to pixie dust).
  • Clairvoyance: The ability to gain information about an object, person, location, or event through means other than the known human senses. It is known that Inara was able to watch for millennia as numerous trios of the Charmed Ones rose and fell. During the time of her Utopia, Inara kept having weird unknown feelings. She was able to see glimpses of Harry Greenwood getting Kaela Danso's teapot and starting it on the oven, though she was unable to see his face. She was also later able to sense the timeline changing, after the Charmed Ones sent the tape back in time, and was able to observe them and the world, as it was revealed that Inara was fully aware and thus changed her tactics.
Former Powers
  • The Power of Three: The collective power of the Charmed Ones, which stems from their sisterly bond. Inara and her sisters were the first to wield that power and came together to stop the first Conqueror with the power of the Source. Evidently, there are certain spells that require the Power of Three and cannot be cast by even the most powerful witches, like Charity Callahan. Following her death ten thousand years ago, she has forever lost the Power of Three. In an erased alternate timeline, she was able to reobtain the Power of Three solely for herself after having drunk from a remade Unity Bowl and avoid its overload.
    • Resistance: Presumably through the Power of Three, the Charmed Ones are able to resist the effects of having their memory erased to a certain extent, allowing the memories to slowly bleed back through.

Inara exhibited various powers as a vengeful spirit, however presumably lost them after her resurrection:

  • Voice Echo: The ability to project one's voice to a place where one is not present. The Lost One spoke to Sunny from the spiritual realm. She was also shown speaking with the unnamed troll and then the Charmed Ones.
  • Possession: The ability to forcefully take control of another being's body. According to the gremlin Nolan Moore, the Lost One possessed his body to speak to his brother, Quentin, and make him start the attacking spree on magical creatures as "the Tallyman" and create the Unseen. She was also shown to use the corpse of the pixie, Annie Periwinkle], in order to get her sister, Daphne, to recruit her into the Unseen.
  • Illusion Casting: The ability to create illusions. Inara used this power to disguise herself as a smoky type of monster so no one would know her true appearance and identity.

Equipment[]

  • New Unity Bowl (erased future; formerly): After the bowl was remade and empowered by the sacrifice of various members of the Unseen, Inara was fully resurrected. Upon drinking from the Unity Bowl, she was able to claim the Power of Three for herself, stealing it from the Vera-Danso sisterhood in the process. Almost immediately after, she smashed the recreated bowl on the ground, releasing a burst of energy that warped reality to create what she considered a perfect world: one where only magical beings lived, while all humans were transformed into plants. However, she later revealed to Jordan that it had been "a one-time deal", and even if she wanted to, she could no longer warp reality as she desired. However, after Maggie sent a video tape containing all of their memories manifested by Kaela back in time to before Inara was resurrected, this dark timeline was eventually erased and the new bowl was obtained by the Vera-Danso Charmed Ones before it could be used.

Former Weaknesses[]

  • Mortality: Despite being a witch, Inara was still mortal and still had many of the same weaknesses as non-supernatural humans (e.g. age, decapitation, disease, heart-failure, suffocation, snapped neck, etc.), until her death.
  • The Destruction of the Sisterhood: Despite the Power of Three being one of her greatest strengths, it was also a burden. Inara's entombment by Ishta and Ishani was what started the cycle that cursed future Charmed Ones.

Appearances[]

Trivia[]

  • It is unknown what her native language was or place of habitat. With her and her sisters being over ten thousand years old, it is very likely to have been some ancient dead language and civilization.
    • Her name comes from the Arabic word inara (إنارة), which means to light, to illuminate. However, her age pre-dates the Arabic language.
    • According to Inara's actress' own race and origin, Inara might be Persian of origin. Additionally, as the Unity Bowl is inscribed with ancient Persian, it is possible that she and her sisters inhabited one of the regions that are now known as Iran, parts of Central Asia, or the Caucasus region, as these are the regions where the language was spoken.
      • However, as, once again, their ages predate this language and civilization, it is still unknown where exactly they lived and what language or languages they spoke.
  • It is unknown how she learned to speak English, though it is known that she was able to witness the rise and fall of various sisterhoods of Charmed Ones throughout her imprisonment, so she could have learned this way.
  • According to Joey Falco on Twitter, Inara was the middle sister in her sisterhood of Charmed Ones.[5] This is similar to  Piper Halliwell from the original series. However, this is their only similarity.
  • Inara shares numerous similarities with Neena, Tuatha, Imara, and Prue Halliwell from the original series and the comics continuation of the series:
    • Introduced in the comics, Neena was the first witch to ever exist, while Inara was one of the first set of Charmed Ones to exist in the world of the reboot series. Also, while Neena was initially introduced as an antagonist, it was gradually revealed that she was only a determined woman with a tragic story and that her misguided plans were still well-intentioned. Inara, on the other hand, was also a determined yet tragic figure who believed her actions were for the best.
    • Just like Tuatha, Inara was a good witch who fell from grace and was subsequently entombed alive. Also, similarly to Tuatha, Inara was one of the most powerful witches the Vera-Danso sisterhood had ever faced—as shown by their confrontation with her in Be Kind. Rewind., she managed to kill all three of them even after they reclaimed the Power of Three.
    • Just like Imara, Inara was a mistress of magic whose ambitions made her highly dangerous and unpredictable, and even their names are strikingly similar.
    • Just like Prue, Inara was also one of the original Charmed Ones in her world, who died in the destruction of her sisterhood. Inara also took on the Power of Three by herself, which Prue was able to do in the comics continuation of the original series when magic was made to switch sides. Also, similarly to Prue, Inara became a calamity to mankind and magic but ultimately came to her senses and even made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world, releasing all the negative feelings she harbored over her death and against her sisters as she did so.
  • While most utilize the power of possession to inhabit the bodies of living beings, Inara was shown to use the power to inhabit the bodies of deceased beings, such as Nolan Moore and Annie Periwinkle. In some instances, it is implied that Inara was simply casting illusions in order to manipulate her targets into believing that they were speaking with the deceased individuals, though this is never directly stated. For instance, Inara appeared to Daphne Periwinkle as Annie, despite the fact that Annie seemed to have been buried.
