The Deutsches Afrikakorps (German for "German Africa Corps"), better known simply as the Afrika Korps, was a German expeditionary force in Libya and Tunisia during World War II. The reputation of the Afrika Korps is synonymous with that of its first commander, Erwin Rommel, as an impeccable and efficient fighting machine. Their main opponents were the equivalent allied force, the Desert Rats, led by Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery.
