A type of sword was one of the weapons wielded by the Knights of Byzantium.[1][2][3]

History[]

Buffy captured this sword when confronted by one of the Knights. Arriving at the Magic Box, she used it to threaten Watchers Council member Nigel, throwing it at the shelf beside him after his interruption. The sword skewered a post-it note written "1/2 OFF".[1]

The other Knights of Byzantium, including Orlando, used these swords while fighting against Glory's minions. Glory herself then arrived at the battle and fought back using the Knights' own swords against themselves.[2]

Another Knight wielded this sword while fighting Buffy on the top of a motorhome. He stabbed the top of the moving vehicle until Spike hold the blade with his bare hands. Buffy then fought the Knight and disarmed him. While fighting two other Knights, she took the sword and threw them from the vehicle with it.[3]

In 2002, Jonathan found the sword Buffy had captured hung in the wall of the Magic Box. He carried it when he escaped Willow, and he used it to threat Andrew into cooperating with Xander.[4] Later, the sword fell into a hole Willow had opened to trap Buffy, and Dawn used it to fight the earth golems that attacked them.[5]

In 2003, Archduke Sebassis had one of these swords stored among the weapons in his throne room.[6]

In 2004, Spike ran Angel through with one of these swords to kill a demon on his back.

Behind the scenes[]

  • As with many of the weapons seen on the series, this sword was purchased from a catalog for use on the show. It is in fact the "Sword of Prince Valiant," by the Spanish sword manufacturer Marto. The original sword features a bronze plated hilt that features the Prince's shielded likeness, six green simulated gemstones among Celtic knot work, and a plated horse head pommel. The inscription on the blade reads: "Invincible is that one who uses me in a good cause."[7]
