"Antique" is a short story from the Tales of the Vampires comic book miniseries. Written by Drew Goddard and illustrated by Ben Stenbeck, it was originally published on February 11, 2004, by Dark Horse Comics.
Summary[]
Buffy and two other Slayers break into the stronghold of the legendary vampire, Dracula. They are in an effort to rescue Xander, who has been enthralled to serve as Dracula's manservant.
Buffy and Dracula fight, and the vampire laments how he has become a joke, warning the Slayer that she too will become antiquated one day. Buffy ridicules Dracula for his "mid-life crisis," and he eventually agrees to release his Xander from his trance.
Dracula bids Xander goodbye, thanking him for the time they spend together. Alone again, Dracula resumes his elderly appearance.
Continuity[]
- With the newly activated Slayers, the story is set after episode "Chosen." This is the first canonical story featuring Buffy set after the TV series finale.
- It also takes place before The Long Way Home, Part One, when Xander is already established at the Slayer Organization.
- The whereabouts of Buffy were mentioned in the Angel episode "Damage."
- Andrew eventually explains the time Xander passed with Dracula as related to Anya' death (Wolves at the Gate, Part Two). Xander will stay with Dracula again due to the death of a lover, in Wolves at the Gate, Part Four.
- Dracula's ability to ride motorcycle thanks to Xander is mentioned again in Wolves at the Gate, Part Two and New Rules, Part Five.

Quotes[]
Dracula: "The world cycles... Each generation must negate the generation before it. Overstay your welcome, and you'll become a tall tale for children. Fodder for terrible films and television serials. All because you committed the one cardinal sin: you aged." |
Dracula: "Ah, yes... Miss Summers and her Slayers. Heroes such as yourselves would never be frightened by something as commonplace as... a swarm of bees!" |
Buffy: "I think I'm allergic to bees. No, wait — I'm allergic to soy." |
