Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the largest city in the U.S. state of New Mexico and the place of residence for Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, Jimmy McGill, Mike Ehrmantraut, and their acquaintances. The events of Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and El Camino primarily transpired in and around the city.
Walter White settled in Albuquerque with his wife Skyler in 1990. Initially a hapless and overqualified chemistry high school teacher, he began cooking methamphetamine to financially provide for his family after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. His descent into the city's criminal underworld eventually led him to operate the largest meth manufacturing operation in U.S. history. Walt's rise came at the cost of bringing calamity to Albuquerque, such as his indirect role in a plane crash above the city, his bombing of a local nursing home and numerous murders. Walt was (sometimes reluctantly) aided in his exploits by Jesse Pinkman, a former student and drug dealer.
Jimmy McGill moved to Albuquerque in 1992 at the behest of his older brother Chuck, who co-founded one of the city's most prestigious law firms. Initially a public defender and lawyer for the elderly, he gradually shifted his path to being the go-to lawyer for Albuquerque's criminals, becoming a local celebrity by flamboyantly advertising his services on television using the pseudonym "Saul Goodman", a persona which his lover and wife Kim Wexler helped create. It was through this work that Jimmy came into contact with Walt and Jesse in 2008.
Gustavo Fring settled in Albuquerque in the 1990s and re-established his fried chicken restaurant chain, Los Pollos Hermanos, which doubled as a front organization for the Juarez Cartel. Albuquerque subsequently became a major hub for drug trafficking from Mexico.
When Jimmy was arrested in Omaha, he was extradited back to Albuquerque.
