King Tut AKA Victor Goodman or William Omaha McElroy is an Egyptology obsessed villain who considers himself the reincarnation of the Pharaohs.
History[]
Creation[]
King Tut was created for the 1960s Batman TV-show. In the show, William Omaha McElroy was a professor of Egyptology at Yale University until he suffered a head injury at a student protest. Due to this head trauma, William became convinced that he was the reincarnation of King Tutankhamun and started using Ancient Egypt themed crimes to reinstate the Egyptian empire.
New Earth[]
The comic book version of King Tut is shown to be Victor Goodman, a criminal Egyptologist who targets and murders wealthy citizens, and leaves Egyptian-themed riddles, similar to the Riddle of the Sphinx. King Tut was an active criminal relatively early in Batman's career where he was part of a social-circle including The Riddler, Egghead, Bookworm and Marsha, Queen of Diamonds.
King Tut faded into obscurity, with Riddler bringing Tut up to a TV crew years later, rhetorically asking where the group of campier villains went. When King Tut took up his murders again, Batman teamed up with the Riddler, who does not appreciate his modus operandi being stolen, to help to stop Goodman.

Notes and trivia[]
- The name, "Victor Goodman" is a tribute to King Tut's original actor Victor Buono, whose surname translates to, "Good man".
- Despite having been an Egyptologist, the professor's chosen pharaoh identity is King Tutankhamen, a pharaoh who was un-notable in his lifetime and only gained fame due to his preserved corpse and tomb. In real-world history, Tutankhamen was a severely inbred boy pharaoh who died when he was only 19 years old.
- King Tut shares notable similarities to Batman's gangster enemy Maxie Zeus, a teacher who became convinced he was the Greek god Zeus.
