A Tiny Craft: Flowers

It's the middle of May already, and that means it's time for a new challenge at A Tiny Craft! This month, we are looking for Artist Trading Cards or Coins with FLOWERS. I made a quartet:

I was able to abide by my favourite ATC principle: using stuff I already have. The bases are all from gel plate prints or ink smooshing panels I had already made, and the Catherine Pooler You've got Flowers had already been stamped and die cut. I added to the various backgrounds with some other stamping (mostly Neat & Tangled's Hello Spring), and ended up only adding three of the bigger flowers - but at least I have tiny flowers on the fourth one! I'm not sure I've actually made a one layer ATC before. :) Here's a closer look at each one:

There is a bouquet of floral ATCs on the challenge blog - be sure to visit, and I hope you'll join us!

A Tiny Craft: Bunnies!

Welcome to the April edition of A Tiny Craft! With many celebrating Easter and/or spring, our theme this month is BUNNIES! I have a set of Tim Holtz critter dies that have been waiting patiently in my stash, so out came the rabbit:

After watercolouring and assembling these four bunny faces, I know why I would never be on a die cutting design team. :D Fiddly!!! The four coin bases all come from pre-made backgrounds, but I added text stamping to two of them. The die cut "hellos" also came from my stash. The other two I decided to make specifically for Easter. Here's a closer look:

And now, a bonus special guest appearance by a lamb!

I surprised myself by willingly making one more ATC with another of the critter dies, but I also now know that using coloured cardstock is considerably easier than colouring each. tiny. piece. :D The base was already dry-embossed, but I added some sparkly mica mist to colour it. The flower components were already die cut, too - and amazingly, coordinated with the spray. My lamb's little meadow? A leaf from a Catherine Pooler peach stamp set. :)
ATCs with Heart/ATCs mit Herz has a Spring challenge, so I will join them with these!
Artist trading cards or coins are so much fun to make - I hope you'll join us!

The Snarky Stampers Do ATCs

It's time for a new Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers challenge - too bad we missed April 1st by a day! ;) Our new theme is A is for ATC. Also known as Artist Trading Cards or Coins. Edna has helpfully offered the correct dimensions for both!
I had some packaging I thought would make for fun ATC bases, and had enough to cut a pair:

It's a fairly porous kraft-style card, so I used distress oxides with my stencil to make sure the colours would show up. I thought these two Mod Birds from my Favorite Things went well with the snarky stickers from Tim Holtz. These were fun and easy to put together - here's a closer look at each.

More fun inspiration from my sisters in snark as well as our current Queen and guest designer, Fran! Hope you decide to join us.

A Tiny Craft: Masculine

Look at that, it's the middle of March! And that means it's time for a new A Tiny Craft (ATC) challenge. This month, we're all about masculine artist trading cards or coins. I have some terrific masculine patterned paper that I am much better at admiring than actually using, so out it came:

Most of the designs for this set of four comes from a Graphic 45 paper pad called A Proper Gentleman, with a few pieces from a DCWV pad called Timeless Type. I thought it would be fun to keep to a sports/leisure theme, and picked my main panels accordingly. A few I matted with black cardstock while others I left plain. I used some very old office-supply brads on two of them, and added a trio of Nuvo drops to a third. Here's a closer look at each one:

I'm adding these to the current ATC Around the World Challenge where it's Anything Goes this month.
I'm hope you'll head to A Tiny Craft and see the fun creations of my design teammates, and then I hope you'll be inspired to join us!

A Tiny Craft: NBUS

After a January break, the design team is back to creating at A Tiny Craft! This month, we are looking for you to create an artist trading card or coin with some NBUS on it. And what's NBUS? Coined by card queen Darnell, it stands for "never before used schtuff". Whether old or new, if you have stamps, dies, etc. that have yet to be put to use, we'd like to see them in action.
When I went looking, it didn't take long to find a stamp set that I've had for well over a year that is perfectly sized for ATCs:

Normally, I look to ATCs as a perfect way to use up leftover bits and pieces, but this time, it was a great excuse to finally ink up this cute little plant set from Studio Katia. I picked four of them to clear emboss on die cut note pages before watercolouring them. At least I used up some offcuts of patterned paper as backgrounds! Each one also got a bit of bling. A closer look at each one:

With my NBUS stamp use (and at Darnell's suggestion), I'm adding these to her February NBUS Challenge
If you have some goodies that haven't quite made it onto a project yet, I hope you'll give our challenge a try - and why not link up with Darnell's fun challenge, too!

A Tiny Craft: Happy Holidays ATCs

It's the middle of December (insert panicked face here) and time for a new A Tiny Craft Challenge! Our theme this month is HAPPY HOLIDAYS, and we'd like to see trading cards or coins that reflect what you celebrate this time of year.
Funny, I don't exactly "celebrate" the snow that comes along with Christmas in December, but I went with a snowflake theme for my trio of ATCs anyway:

These backgrounds were already in my Christmas stash, although I did get a chance to use my new mica spray on the embossed snowflakes to the lower right! Shimmery. :D In addition, all the stamped and die cut elements were already made and just waiting to be added to these. My other main contributions were cutting the strip of patterned paper for the side of the one ATC, and adding the blue brad to the centre of the die cut snowflake.
A closer look at each one:

(Yep, noticed the one wonky snowflake arm AFTER
I photographed. Luckily, I was able to
nudge it into its proper place.)

Not surprisingly, we weren't the only ATC challenge to come up with this theme, so I will be adding these to both ATC Around the World: Christmas Time and ATCs with Heart/ATCs hit Herz - also Christmas Time.

A Tiny Craft: We Remember

Here we in the middle of November, meaning it's time for a new A Tiny Craft (ATC) Challenge! We are looking for ATCs (cards or coins) for the challenge theme We Remember. With Remembrance Day (Canada) and Veterans' Day (USA) recently behind us, we are looking for something that reflects those commemorations. I made two artist trading cards with a poppy theme:

Let me tell you a little more about each one...

This poppy is watercoloured with Daniel Smith paints on black mixed-media cardstock. I thought this sentiment was perfect for the theme - it's stamped in white pigment ink.

This time I used a poppy die set, and added it to black cardstock that I'd stamped and embossed with a plaid background stamp. A little nod to the many regimental plaids.
Be sure to check out the Tiny Craft blog - you are sure to be inspired to join us!

A Tiny Craft: Halloween ATCs

Here we are in the middle of October - time for a new A Tiny Craft challenge! Halloween is just over two weeks away, and a perfect choice for our new theme.

I am very good at picking up various Halloween bits when I find something fun in a craft store or on sale online. Making a few Artist Trading Cards is an excellent way to use a few of them up! I used some ephemera from K & Company, some die cuts I already had, a sparkly bat background left over from another project, and added a few new items, such as the cobweb embossed panels. Here's a closer look at them:

I'm entering these in the current Anything Halloween Goes challenge at Two Old Bats Halloween Challenge
Have some fun Halloween items in your stash? Why not make an Artist Trading Card or Coin and join us?

A Tiny Craft: Fall/Autumn ATCs

It's time for the second-ever A Tiny Craft challenge! Our theme this month is Fall/Autumn. I made a series of four ATCs:

Here's a closer look at each:

I'm actually using my colour sprays!

This background is from a gelli printing session;
it's the sheet from cleaning my brayer off.

Artist trading cards and coins are such fun to make - so I hope you will play along!

Welcome to... A Tiny Craft!

There's a new challenge blog on the inter webs, and we're calling it... A Tiny Craft! Which, by no coincidence at all, has the same initials as Artist Trading Cards/Coins. Originated by my snarky sister, Donna, we are all about the smaller pieces of papercraft. If you're unfamiliar with them, Artist Trading Cards are explained here, but simply, they are 2½ x 3½ inches and used to create little pieces of art that can then be traded. More recently, coins have been added, measuring 2½ inches in diameter.
To make it easy to join us, our first challenge is ANYTHING GOES! You only need to make one card or coin to join us, but I often make them in multiples. I decided on a music theme:

I already had these backgrounds made and cut - other than being done on a gel plate with acrylic paint and a stencil, I can't tell you much about them, they've been waiting to be used for so long. I added a variety of stamps and die cuts to them to complete the theme. Here's a closer look at each one:

Since this is our first challenge, I thought I would also show you how I finish the backs of my ATCs:

And there you have it! ATCs are fun and easy to make. Be sure to check out the work of my talented teammates, Barbara, Chris, Deena, Donna, Lee (joining us next month) and Mimi! I hope you will join us.
