Uncharted Territory is a broad term for the theorized space surrounding the Frontrooms and Backrooms. It is shrouded in mystery and remains entirely unexplored due to its inaccessibility, considered as nothing but a deadzone outside of all existence.
Description
The study of the greater universe and its structure, theorized to be divided into and surrounded by "tiered" regions containing one other, has produced valuable data, such as the discovery of discrete variations in the laws of physics throughout said regions. For consistency across the Database — and to honor the initial goal of further documenting Uncharted Territory — this article will serve as the hub for such research.

Geometry
Geometry, in this case, refers to the linearity and magnitude of spaces. For example, The Frontrooms follows a mostly linear geometry with three spatial dimensions and one temporal dimension. The following are terms to be used that pertain to geometry:
- Euclidean space - Refers to an entirely linear, "flat" space of no curvature. This means parallel lines always stay parallel, triangles can only be made up of precisely 180 degrees, turning right four times leads you back where you started, and so on.
- Non-Euclidean space - Any space where these aforementioned rules do not apply. See examples below:
- Spherical space - A space with "positive" curvature. Parallel lines converge, triangles always consist of more than 180 degrees, turning right three times lands you back where you started.
- Hyperbolic space - A space with "negative" curvature. Parallel lines diverge, triangles always consist of less than 180 degrees, turning right five times lands you back where you started.
- Spatial dimension - Distinct axis of physical space, with two directions to it. Usually only three of these will be present in any particular location.
- Temporal dimension - Distinct axis of physical time, typically with only one direction to it. Usually only one of these will be present in any particular location.
- 4-dimensional space - Refers to a space with four spatial dimensions, with there presumably being one temporal dimension left unmentioned, like The Void. This notation can be contracted (e.g. 3-dimensional space, like The Frontrooms) or extended as needed.
Entropics
Entropy is a measure of the distribution of energy. For example, the detonation of a bomb is a process that increases entropy; the bomb's potential energy is spread around a large area, in the form of heat and physical force. The following are terms to be used that pertain to entropics:
- Entropic preference/drift - Direction of global entropy change, can be different between levels in the Backrooms. Below are all the kinds of entropic preferences in shortened form:
- Proentropy (proentropic preference) - How reality works. Global entropy increases with time, eventually distributing all energy evenly in an isolated environment, and making processes that locally increase entropy (or proentropic processes) significantly more efficient than processes that locally decrease entropy (or antientropic processes). Using the earlier metaphor, a bomb would efficiently turn its matter into energy and spread it out over an area. The Frontrooms would be a fitting example of proentropic preference.
- Antientropy (antientropic preference) - Inverse of proentropy. Global entropy decreases with time, eventually coalescing all energy together in an isolated environment. Proentropic processes would suffer great inefficiency compared to antientropic ones. A bomb may awkwardly fissile out and possibly implode. Perpetual motion machines will work but may falter with time as they accumulate energy.
- Anentropy (anentropic preference) - Lack of entropic drift. Global entropy stays still, energy distribution remaining identical in an isolated environment. A bomb might work as intended but appear slower or generally less effective. Perpetual motion machines will work as intended. The Void is an example of a location with anentropic preference.
- Paraentropy (paraentropic preference) - Variable entropic drift. Global entropy may change from increasing, decreasing, to stagnating at any point. Generally unsafe and unpredictable. The Broken is characterized by paraentropic preference.
