Description
Safe at Last is a location to which one may be sent during particular situations, typically where one is in immense danger, although fear and other emotions also may trigger the transportation. Teleportation does not always occur instantaneously — it might require one to complete an unspecified objective. At other times, one will be teleported to the level promptly. All other proposed entrances are presently considered unconfirmed. Nevertheless, this occurrence is astronomically rare, and few wanderers have ever witnessed Safe at Last. It is undetermined whether the level truly exists, and it is unknown who or what is responsible for the teleports.
The existence of a powerful entity overseeing Safe at Last and bringing wanderers to the level is often hypothesized. However, no confirmed sightings of other life forms within Safe at Last have transpired. Although many insist upon having briefly sighted ominous silhouettes lurking in the distance, these glimpses have been excused as hallucinations occasioned by the level's lack of life. If the suggested entity does exist, its intentions are unknown, and it is unknown whether Safe at Last is indeed safe.
Physically, Safe at Last resembles a twilight suburb in the aftermath of a blizzard. Despite no more reported snowy weather, the height of the snow seems to be rising at a slow yet steady rate by unknown means — the snow is theorized to fully envelop the area at some point. The level encompasses a myriad of households, roads, and lampposts, among other things. The roads which are unconsumed by snow appear decrepit and cobbled together, and the few vehicles distributed throughout are distortedly shaped and rundown. Safe at Last is believed to be one of the smallest levels of the Backrooms, but it cannot feasibly be explored to its fullest due to the difficulty of entry.
No house seems to belong in the neighborhood of Safe at Last. A single street might accommodate over twenty unique styles of architecture, but each window is equally gloomy. Internally, the houses maintain similar layouts and appliances, as well as unsavory, decaying foodstuffs. Every household presents a street address of 789 in platinum, its significance being unknown. Wanderers have reportedly experienced hallucinations and other abnormalities after taking a closer look at the street addresses, but major Backrooms groups have denied any proposed investigations.
A mysterious subway station is located somewhere underneath the neighborhood. it is widely posited that the metro may function as an exit from the level, though exactly where it leads is undetermined. Consistent means of accessing the metro have yet to be discovered, with the reported ones being unpredictable at best. Frequently, holographic subways arrive and depart within the vicinity. The arrival and departure occur at unchanging intervals, akin to a looping video. Nevertheless, a tangible subway will rarely materialize, whose doors will open. Entering them will cause the subway to begin forcefully shaking. It is unknown what will happen next.
