Ronnet is a husky man{{Ref|ACOK|22}}{{ref|AFFC|27}} with a long red beard and long red hair.{{ref|ADWD|Epilogue}}

The [[Knight of Griffin's Roost]] wears a red-and-white surcoat adorned with [[griffin]]s,{{ref|AFFC|27}} and his shield is also decorated with a griffin.{{ref|ACOK|22}}

Red Ronnet is considered fierce{{Ref|ACOK|65}} but can be disparaging.{{ref|AFFC|27}} The knight enjoys [[wine]].{{ref|AFFC|27}}

The exiled [[Jon Connington]] is not resentful toward Ronnet or his late father, [[Ronald Connington]].{{ref|ADWD|61}}

==History==
Once [[lord]]s, [[House Connington]] were demoted to [[landed knight]]s as a result of [[Robert's Rebellion]].{{ref|AFFC|27}} Ser [[Ronald Connington]], the [[Knight of Griffin's Roost]], betrothed his eighteen-year-old son Ronnet to [[Brienne Tarth|Brienne]], the daughter of [[Selwyn Tarth]], the [[Lord of Tarth]]. Ronnet was opposed, having been told that Brienne was ugly.{{Ref|AFFC|27}} When they first met at [[Evenfall Hall]], the two had the same height, although Ronnet was six years older. Brienne remembers how Ronnet brought a [[rose]] to give to his betrothed. She was not able to look him in the eye or speak the simple words of welcome that she had been taught, however.{{Ref|AFFC|9}} When Ronnet handed Brienne the rose, he told her that this was all she would ever have from him, as he had no real interest in marrying her.{{Ref|AFFC|27}}

He participates in a [[melee at Bitterbridge|great mêlée]] in which he is defeated by his once-betrothed, [[Brienne of Tarth]],{{Ref|ACOK|22}} who enjoys her victory.{{Ref|AFFC|20}}

Ronnet is among the lords and knights who follow Renly to [[Siege of Storm's End (299)|Storm's End]] and switch sides to King [[Stannis Baratheon]] after Renly's death.{{Ref|ACOK|65}}

When [[Brienne of Tarth]] meets [[Podrick Payne]] for the first time and he is unable to even pronounce his own name, she is reminded of her own shyness when she met Ronnet when she was twelve.{{Ref|AFFC|9}}

Ser [[Jaime Lannister]] watches knights riding at a [[quintain]] in the yard of the [[Red Keep]], with Ser Ronnet breaking his lance clean.{{Ref|AFFC|16}}

Ronnet accompanies Jaime as his standard bearer when the [[Lord Commander of the Kingsguard]] departs King's Landing to resolve the [[siege of Riverrun]], and he joins Jaime and others for supper at [[Hayford]] on the first night of their voyage.{{ref|AFFC|27}}

At [[Harrenhal]], Jaime comes across Ronnet as he inspects the bear pit; Jaime had rescued Brienne from the pit when she was forced by [[Vargo Hoat]] to fight a [[bear]].{{ref|ASOS|44}} When Ronnet speaks rudely about Brienne, Jaime strikes his mouth with his golden hand, sending Ronnet tumbling down the steps. During the [[landing of the Golden Company]], the exiled [[Jon Connington]] leads the [[taking of Griffin's Roost]]. He is relieved to learn that Ronnet is away, said to be fighting in the [[riverlands]] with Jaime. Jon takes hostage Ronnet's siblings, [[Raymund Connington|Raymund]] and [[Alynne Connington|Alynne]], as well as his bastard son, [[Ronald Storm]].{{Ref|ADWD|61}}

Ronnet arrives in King's Landing with twenty men-at-arms, most of them Mountain's men once sworn to Ser [[Gregor Clegane]]. Ronnet is brought before Ser [[Kevan Lannister]], Lord [[Mace Tyrell]], Lord Tarly, and the other members of the [[small council]], to determine whether he was involved when the [[Golden Company]] attacked the [[stormlands]]. The council decides to put Ronnet under guard in his chambers until they march on Jon and the Golden Company, where he will be given a chance to prove his loyalty. Regarding Ronnet's promise to deliver the heads of Jon and Aegon, Grand Maester [[Pycelle]] mentions Jon's failed promise to King [[Aerys II Targaryen]] to bring him the head of [[Robert I Baratheon|Robert Baratheon]] during [[Robert's Rebellion]].
