A Feast for Crows
Raynard informs the small council that there are upwards of two thousand sparrows within King's Landing and more arriving each day. He is among the two leading possibilities to replace the deceased High Septon.[1] Queen Cersei Lannister visits Septon Raynard and Septon Torbert at the Great Sept of Baelor and finds Raynard on his knees cleaning the floor. The High Sparrow, the new High Septon, claims that doing work is pleasing to the Smith.[2]
When the High Sparrow begins preaching against the brothels in King's Landing, Cersei summons him to court to stop as brothels are a valued source of income for the crown. Instead the High Sparrow sends Raynard with an escort of six Warrior's Sons. Raynard repeats the High Septon's words on the sinfulness of brothels which Cersei finds hypocritical, since she knows Raynard has "special friends" in half the brothels on the Street of Silk.[3]
