House Broom is a noble house from the westerlands. It is one of the principal houses sworn to House Lannister.[2]

According to semi-canon sources, they blazon their arms with a silver helm, crested with a sprig of broom, on black and green checks.[3]

History

The Brooms are an ancient line, dating back to the days of the First Men.[1]

Behind the Scenes

House Broom's name and coat of arms may be a reference to the House of Plantagenet, since the epithet "Plantagenet" supposedly comes from the yellow sprig of broom that Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou wore in his hat.[4] George R. R. Martin has cited Thomas B. Costain's non-fiction books on the Plantagenet dynasty as an influence for Fire & Blood.[5]

Notes

  1. The text states that certain houses trace their roots back to the "golden age of the First Men",[1] a term that could be meant to cover the Dawn Age and the Age of Heroes together. As it is unlikely that no First Men houses of note were founded in the Age of Heroes, we cannot tell if the mentioned houses were founded in the Dawn Age or the Age of Heroes.
