Cortez is a badger[1][2] who worked for the Eggman Empire. Cortez originally was supposed to appear in Sonic Universe Issue 95, however, SEGA and Archie cut ties before the plan even happened.
Cortez took over Castle D'Coolette for the Eggman Empire and defaced all of the artwork containing Antoine D'Coolette there. When Antonie arrived Cortez easily defeated him until Antoine obtained a family sword which rivaled Cortez' and managed to defeat him, though spared him and allowed him to leave. (UPM - SU: #95)

Cortez's sword resembled Deathcalibur from Sonic and the Black Knight.
Cortez was created as a long-term foil for Antoine.[3]
