"I caught a drone beetle! I wonder where the queen is." —Animal Crossing

The drone beetle (カナブン, Kanabun?) is a bright green bug. It appears in Animal Forest, Animal Forest+, Animal Crossing, Animal Forest e+ and New Horizons.

Donation to the museum[]

In Animal Crossing[]

Upon donation, Blathers the curator will say:

"They're called beetles, wot? The lugs of the insect world. Insects with armor plating on their backs, you know. Their armor, it...opens up, revealing wings, which they use to fly. It's really quite unnatural. Then, there's that thin membrane-like covering where their heads connect to their bodies. Most foul!"

In New Horizons[]

In New Horizons, upon donation or selecting "Tell me about this!", Blathers the curator will say (with abhorrence):

"I must say, the drone beetle is like that boorish acquaintance who is much too loud for polite company. That is, it is a large bug with a square head and is so named for the droning noise it makes when it flies. Furthermore, it has hooks on its feet that help it to cling tightly on trees. HOOK FEET... How gauche!"

Drone beetle r japonica

The Drone Beetle is known as Kanabun カナブン in Japanese. Their wings are often emerald green, but some take a more bronzy or citrine tinge.

Close relatives to this species, the Dicronorrhina genus of beetles has very distinctive front legs which are very long and only seen in male individuals. They are considered good beginner species in breeding and raising.

Like many other Scarab Beetles in the family Scarabaeidae, they are colorful and herbivorous, sometimes reaching pest levels when large groups swarm together in one place.
