Ayase Haruka was born March 24, 1985 in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. She is an actress and singer currently affiliated with Hori Production and contracted to the Victor Entertainment label. Her blood type is B.
In 2000, she received the jury's special award at the 25th HoriPro Talent Scout Caravan and made her show business debut thereafter. In 2001 she made her debut as actress in the television drama special Kindaichi Shounen no Jikenbo II SP as Ninomiya Tomoko. Her first regular role in a serial was that of Sugita Megumi in Boku no Ikiru Michi. She first achieved widespread recognition for her starring roles in the short film Justice; in 2004 she rose to stardom as Aki in the TV series Crying Out Love, In the Center of the World (世界の中心で, 愛をさけぶ- Sekai no Chuushin de, Ai o Sakebu) after being previously chosen for the role in an audition out of 723 people. Her performance was awarded the 42nd Television Drama Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress. Ayase's first single, Period, produced by Kobayashi Takeshi, was released on March 24, 2006 and made it to rank eight in the Weekly Oricon Charts selling 28,224 units.
In 2009, she voiced the lead character in the feature animation film Hottarake no Shima: Haruka to Mahou no Kagami.
