Anime: Youma

A story set during the period in japanese history surrounding the death of Shingen Takeda and the fall of the takeda clan, eventually leading to the formation of the tokogowa regime. It has a twist however - behind everything is the evil Yoma; a group of bloodthirsty demons hell bent on taking control of Japan.

The animation is OK it lacks a bit of depth or colour but i guess it seems to work OK. Some of he fight sequences run really quite smoothly with some nice shinobi action.

The storyline does seem a bit abrupt and short but it has a lot to cover over two episodes. I thought they could have introduced the historical elements a bit more in the first episode as they did in the second to give it a little more placement. Apart from that it was alright, not particulary gripping but an average samuri/ninja yarn.

The main character hikage is pretty damn cool he has super senses and a nasty clawed fist which he sharpens meloncholicly every time he stops to sleep. It is pretty annoying how there isn't any other character development though. I would have liked to see more of his female counterpart or found out more about his undead arch enemies

Its seeing if you're into ninja based anime and worth a look if you like nasty lookin demons, i thought it was ok. Good if you wanna pass some time but if you're looking for ninja sroll part duex you'll be disappointed

Think about a classic horrorstory, turn it into anime and then make sure that you'll have only 2 episodes to finish it.

The animation is a bit aged and it looks like they didn't have pulled out enough to make it look interesting. Still, it's good enough for an '80s anime.

The sound is okay, except for the horrible laughing of the demons. Somehow they also use voices which make you shiver from disgust instead of horror.

The story starts off pretty well; a man gets into a little village where everyone's free and happy. But beneath the happyness, there's an awful story...
Sounds good, real horror, but the thing is - the demons being introduced are pretty bad, and the story doesn't develop like it should develop. The story about his childhoodfriend sounds important, but doesn't really have any huge value.

The characters are hardly decent. Not only are the demons pretty bad, also the introduction of the girl in the second episode feels like she's been introduced only to fill up the lack of characters. The main character is good enough to pull the rest out of the slump though, but never enough to get a decent rating.

Rewatch value? It hardly has a watch value, since the story is not good and the characters are mostly crap as well. Still, if you like fighting anime, this might grab your attention.
