The Piggy kingdom,^[3] originally known as the Kingdom of the Pigs,^[1] is a political body that appears in the Angry Birds series. It refers to the country that rules Piggy Island. The capital of the Piggy kingdom is Pig City, and its incumbent monarch is King Pig Smooth Cheeks, who inherited the throne from his father, Leonard.^[3]

The Piggy kingdom is an authoritarian regime inhabited exclusively by the green pigs on Piggy Island. King Pig exerts absolute power over his subjects, and has the obligation to eat at least one egg in his reign. Currently, the kingdom is in a conflict with the Angry Birds over the last three remaining eggs on the island. King Pig is aided by a massive army of Minion Pigs, the lowest class citizens in the regime who carry out his orders without question. For all its resourcefulness though, the Piggy kingdom always stops short of getting the Angry Birds' eggs.

Description[]

The Piggy kingdom is an absolute, hereditary monarchy that rules over Piggy Island. Despite its vast territorial extension, it only has one permanent settlement: its capital, Pig City.^[4] The country's citizens are the green pigs that inhabit the island. The kingdom is an authoritarian regime where the monarch, currently King Pig Smooth Cheeks, hosts absolute power over his citizens. The sovereign's authority comes from his golden crown, as well as his obesity, which in the Piggy kingdom is a sign of power.^[5][3] To further cement his power, the king has a cult of personality around himself: blindly admiring him is mandatory, and false claims of achievements are used to manipulate public opinion of him.^[5]

The regime's hierarchy is mostly based in size - the larger the pig, the more power he exerts.^[3] Smooth Cheeks' enormous size gives him the most authority of all the pigs, and enjoys constant meals and naps as a result.^[5] Below him is the Foreman Pig, who oversees the infrastructure of the kingdom,^[6] followed by the Corporal Pigs, pigs arbitrarily chosen by the king to lead the country's military forces.^[2] The lowest class is composed of Minion Pigs, who are frequently used as the soldiers and workforce of the regime. The Minion Pigs lack basic rights and follow their superiors' orders without question, making them often subject to the abuse and mockery of the higher classes. Punishments for disobedience can be severe, ranging from imprisonment to deportation from Pig City. Despite this, the Minion Pigs are generally content with their lives and take any opportunities to find moments of joy with each other.^[7][4]

The egg evidently plays an important role in the Piggy kingdom's culture, being predominantly featured in the regime's banners and seen as a delicacy only the sovereign is allowed to consume.^[3] The regime also observes many real-world holidays that influence its activities, such as Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, and Christmas. During Halloween, the kingdom holds "Ham'o'ween" where the Minion Pigs are obliged to bring candies to the monarch in a structure outside of Pig City known as the Trick or Treat Castle.^[8]

The Piggy kingdom runs on ancient laws, collectively known as the "Pigora", which works as its constitution. These laws are interpreted by Chronicler Pig, and dictate the duties of the monarch and his subjects. One of these laws mandates the king eats eggs at least once in his reign - abstaining from doing so may jeopardize his power. Smooth Cheeks, who has yet to eat any eggs, organizes ceremonies where he eats fake eggs to give off the illusion of legitimacy, but fears his secret may be uncovered and thus engages in constant efforts to seize the three last remaining eggs on the island, which are under the care of a flock of rare birds known as the Angry Birds. This law is what drives the ongoing conflict between the two factions, although the Angry Birds are always able to secure their eggs before King Pig has a chance to eat them. Other ancient laws prohibit bathing - hygiene is seen as taboo in the kingdom - and snoring while asleep.^[3][4]

The Piggy kingdom has access to vast resources, retrieving wood materials from the Square Forest, which is next to Pig City and famed for its squarish trees,^[9] and perfectly cubical pieces of stone from the Pig Mines, a vast network of caves underneath the Hog Head Mountain.^[10] Additionally, the regime regularly finds piles of man-made resources on the shores of Piggy Island, including TNT and engines, which it uses for its creations. To delay the birds' efforts to retrieve the eggs, the pigs tend to build structures out of whatever materials they find, the construction of which is overseen by the Foreman Pig;^[3] similar buildings also serve as the pigs' houses in Pig City. Furthermore, the kingdom engages in the creation of all sorts of vehicles and weapons for its schemes, which are frequently tested at the Golden Fields.^[11] However, the Foreman Pig's reluctance to use fasteners to affix and support these devices results in them being very fragile and breaking down easily.^[4][6]

Since the formation of the Piggy kingdom, a famous legend said that the monarch had to eat a Porkini Mushroom at least once in their life. If this was ignored, then tragedies and catastrophes would affect both the monarch and other members. Some incidents that happened due to the monarch failing to eat a Porkini Mushroom involved the Piggy kingdom being overthrown, the monarch vanishing into darkness, or being cursed with hiccups for three days straight.^[12]

Some time ago, one former king of the Piggy kingdom found a Golden Egg, which he used to turn anything it touched into gold. This history was printed on a book on Golden Island.^[13]

During the medieval period of '37, there was a catastrophe that involved the Queen Pig of that time, who was in a royal chariot driven by pigs until it tripped, causing a disaster and panic among the crew. Later, during '52, another incident occurred with the King Pig at that time, who was seriously angered to discover that his crown was being worn by two pigs without his permission.

At some point, King Ludpig XVI would eventually ascend to the throne as monarch of the Piggy Kingdom alongside his wife consort, Marie Hamtoinette. These kings would own a luxurious private garden on Piggy Island, which would continue to be active long afterwards, and would later be invaded by The Flock in an attempt to retrieve their eggs.

More recently, Leonard's grandfather, the then monarch of the Piggy kingdom, tried to find eggs to eat and extend his monarchy. However, he apparently failed. His son then tried doing so, but his operations backfired as well. Later, Chloe, Leonard's aunt, during her tenure she tried to find the eggs, however, her operations failed.

The Angry Birds Movie[]

A few days before his coronation, Leonard managed to track and find the location of Bird Island, where he could find eggs to eat. With a large army of Minion Pigs and some ships, he went to the island, where he was welcomed by its population. However, one bird, Red, was skeptical of the pigs' stay, though the other birds insisted that they were good people. That day, Leonard showed some of the Piggy kingdom's inventions to the birds, including a trampoline and a slingshot, before having a cowboy show. However, Red and his new friends, Chuck and Bomb, broke into the kingdom's ship and found many more pigs. Red suspected that something was wrong, though his complaints were ignored. The next day, Leonard discovered that the island had indeed lots of eggs as he predicted. As such, he started to prepare a giant party somewhere on Bird Island while his minions filled the island with TNT and stole the eggs. That night, he bombed the entire island and escaped to Piggy Island with the eggs.

The next day, at Pig City, the capital of the Piggy kingdom, Leonard had his coronation, and wanted to celebrate eating eggs for dinner found that night and the next one. However, a while later, the birds, led by Red, used the slingshot Leonard had shown them to attack the city, break through the king's castle, and rescue the eggs. Unhappy with this, Leonard sent all of his armies to counteract the birds. Unfortunately for him however, Red, Chuck and Bomb managed to break through his castle and rescue the eggs with the help of the Mighty Eagle. As the birds were about to leave though, one blue egg fell to the castle. Not wanting to have the pigs eat it, Red went back to the castle and had a duel against Leonard, which ended in the two and the egg falling to the castle's basement, which was filled with dynamite. Leonard used a candle to heat the egg, only to be stopped by Red. As the bird tried to escape with the egg, the candle lit a dynamite. Red spotted a cauldron falling high, and decided to use it to protect himself and the egg from the dynamite's explosion while Leonard was left outside. His plan succeeded, and managed to survive the gigantic explosion as the other birds escaped the city, which was being destroyed. During this moment, the egg hatched, giving birth to the Blues.

However, it was soon after revealed that Leonard and other pigs survived the gigantic explosion. Seeking revenge on the birds, the king announced that he would be planning something while laughing maniacally.

Minion Pigs[]

The clueless Minion Pigs are the most common of the troops of the Piggy kingdom. They live in Pig City, with most of them having different jobs. Some live in individual houses, while others live piled in large groups in one single building. The Minion Pigs are trained by Corporal Pig, or by his boss, Foreman Pig. Despite being very stupid, they are still a threat due to their vast numbers.^[3]

	Wildboars	Wild and hostile, the Wildboars are tribes commonly found in jungles and snowy areas. They only appeared in Angry Birds Epic.
	Ninjas	The Ninjas are skilled fighters, who can dodge attacks. They only appeared in Angry Birds Epic.
	Knights	The guards of the monarch of the Piggy kingdom. Tough and resistant, they are immune to low damage. They only appeared in Angry Birds Epic.
