Top pinned images of the month


I thoroughly enjoy compiling the top pinned images of the month post, and this month’s post is full of inspiring architecture, interior and landscape images, and many great ideas.  There were so many images that had a high number of pins, so I had to set the bar high and still came up with 40 images.  I hope you enjoy this visual feast!  Sources noted where possible.

I didn’t include this on my painted brick post because I could not verify the colors, but on Pinterest they are noted as BM ballet white on the brick, SW 50% dovetail on the shutters, and SW brainstorm bronze on the door. The color palette for this house is lovely and it is no surprise that this image was one of the top pinned images of the month.

A house with incredible curb appeal, image source. I know some architects aren't fans of the garage in front, but I really like the look and think it is particularly effective with this design.

The original text on this pin was ‘simplicity’, perhaps because the clean lines and elegant planters and terrace design has universal appeal.

The landscape is the focus of this beautiful back yard, and no surprise that the image came from Lila Fendrick Landscape Architects.

I pinned many outdoor rooms this month, but this was the only one that made it to the top pinned category. A house in Vancouver found on Martha Moments.   I am intrigued by the freestanding fireplace, and the fact that three distinct flames appear in the space. Note how there is an outdoor dining area up the steps. Not pictured is a fountain on a wall to the right. This is the perfect outdoor retreat! It’s amazing that this is in Vancouver given that the outdoor season is probably not that long.

A beautiful white kitchen by Ruard Veltman Architecture. I think the design detail on the back wall is fascinating – the marble appears to be under the wood, and the curve is carved into the wood rather than the marble.

A kitchen found on Pinterest captured a lot of attention.

This is a clever and attractive design for a shower niche.  Via Bright Bold & Beautiful.

Only one recipe made it to the top pinned this month! I didn’t pin a lot of recipes as I was not in cooking mode due to spring break and general spring fever. This looks like a good one, though! Onion soup with fontina and thyme, original recipe can be found here.

A handy reference for kitchen measurements, found on One Good Thing by Jillee. I printed it out and hung it on my bulletin board.

A great idea for trash bag storage – a paper towel holder -  found on Pinterest.

A great collection of warm neutral paint colors, from Domaine Home.

An interesting idea for laundry cabinets (although I can’t say I have seen built in cabinetry for laundry machines that frequently) but I can see how this would be very good for the back! Image source.

A smart idea for hiding lamp cords – using clear command hooks!  See the full tutorial here on Hi Sugarplum. I looked on Amazon and it appears that there are small clear command hooks, mini hooks, and decorative hooks. Based on the pictures in the tutorial, the author used a combination of a few sizes. This looks like it would be a great idea for hanging Christmas lights on mantels and around doors too!

This was the top pinned image of the month! I love it when the image contains the instructions too. I just ordered some lavender essential oil on Amazon (this one is the #1 best seller and has great reviews).

Top pinned images of the February 2014


I received numerous requests for the topped pinned images of February, in addition to the top architecture pins of the month (which can be seen here), so without further ado here are the top pinned images of the month. This post is full of inspiring interior and landscape images, wonderful recipes, and many great ideas.


I pinned this on the last day of the month, and it immediately became one of the most pinned images. Hydrangeas, ferns, sweet potato vine make a great planter arrangement for the shade, and create a beautiful and welcoming vignette for this house. 2012 Southern Living Idea House by Tracery Interiors and Historical Concepts.

This charming family room received a lot of attention this month.  The soothing colors, mixture of textures, ample seating, and beautiful arrangement of art and mirrors above the sofa creates a pleasing image.  Source unknown.

Believe it or not, this beautiful room came from a Horchow ad for a sectional! It’s a beautiful room. The link can be found here.

Another room styled for a catalog (Serena & Lily) hits all the right notes. It’s a beautiful room.

A beautiful tone on tone library featured in Veranda. The tulip arrangement is so unique and is the perfect touch for this room. Designer unknown.

A beautiful bedroom, this would be an ideal set up for a guest room.  I paricularly like how the mansard mirror is hung above the lamp and between the beds. Found on pinterest, source unknown.

Alexa Hampton wrote a great article a few years ago about family photo etiquette – I found it this month.

This is one of my favorite images of the month. The soft colors, the dreamy art (does anyone know the name of the artist?), the green and white flower arrangement – it all comes together beautifully. Design by Jenkins Interiors. Image source.

These wonderful metal cleaning cloths (they work on just about any metal - aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, gold, nickel, pewter, silver) that I highlighted in my kitchen faucet post was pinned many times. They can be purchased on Amazon here.

Pork tenderloin with pan sauce. I saw this pork tenderloin recipe on Pinterest, and made it a few weeks ago. It’s excellent, and the original recipe can be found here.  I have found that pork tenderloin marinades tend to work just as well on chicken, so I am going to try this recipe with chicken breast next.

Mushroom asiago chicken. I have not made this yet, but it looks promising! Apparently this recipe won a grand prize in a ‘best of food blogger recipes 2013’. The pin notes “gourmet meal that’s on your table in 30 minutes. The result was this dish and it’s superb. If you don’t have fresh thyme, I’d suggest using 1/2 tsp dried in it’s place. And if you cannot find Asiago cheese, Romano or Parmesan is a decent substitute”. Original recipe found here. Update: I made this for dinner and it was delicious - it took a fair amount of time (although it wasn't hard) and it is not light (due to the cream and butter), but the family enjoyed it!

Pimento cheese pinwheels. This recipe caught my eye – I’m always on the lookout for easy appetizers, and anything with pimento cheese in it has got to be good! Original recipe found here.

Pan roasted chicken with lemon-garlic green beans.  I have not made this yet, but the pin notes promise it is an easy week night meal that comes together quickly. Here is the original recipe. I suggest reading the reviews if you want to make this; they are mixed, some very good, some not so good. There are tips on how to modify the recipe to make it even better too.

Chicken breasts with mushrooms. An old school chicken recipe by Julia Childs, the blogger promises that “the mushroom and cream sauce that smothers the chicken breasts in this recipe is so divine”. The original recipe can be found here.

Avocado and grilled corn salad with cilantro vinaigrette. I might have to wait until summer to try this one, but it looks wonderful. Original recipe can be found here.

From food to kithens…this pin on sink drawers versus cabinets was popular. I could see how this would be very useful. Note how the top drawer has a section on each side for cleaning supplies, which fits neatly to the side of the sink. Found on pinterest, source unknown.

I really like the layout of this kitchen – it’s light and airy and quite streamlined.  Found on Pinterest.

What caught my eye about this picture was the amazing art on paper series – it makes a big impact. But looking closer at the kitchen itself, the design of the cabinetry is so interesting. What a great way to incorporate lower cabinets and use the space above for something I love in a kitchen – art. I wonder who the artist is?  Image via Jute, a design firm in the San Francisco area.

Two bathrooms made the list.  This is a beauty – so many interesting details to take in, such as the cabinet design, the placement of the hand towels, the lovely faucet. Image source.
