FEMA Remapping
Mapping
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) produces and continuously updates flood hazard data in support of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). This data is most commonly available in the form of Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). The majority of the County and incorporated Cities are currently covered by March, 2003 FIRMs with the exception of detailed studies performed in 2014 in the areas of Arbuckle Williams and Maxwell. The ‘dated’ nature of the FIRMs has prompted FEMA to reanalyze and remap Colusa County, which has resulted in significate changes to the floodplain. The preliminary mapping information is located (here)
Potential Refunds
Property owners who are currently carrying a NFIP flood policy, and whose property has been mapped out of a Special Flood Hazard Area, may be entitled to a refund of premiums paid up to one year prior to the effective date of the appropriate map above. Please contact your insurance provider for more details regarding refunds on premiums. General information regarding the refunds can also be obtained here.
