1990: Michael Keaton originally “turned down” the role of Beetlejuice

“I took a bunch of wardrobe home and started experimenting”

In 1990, Michael Keaton told Terry Wogan that he originally turned down the role of Beetlejuice in the Tim Burton film several times, and explained how he eventually got into character.

The horror comedy was originally released in 1988 and also starred Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis.

The long-awaited sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, premiered at the 2024 Venice Film Festival and is released across the UK on 6 September.

This clip was originally broadcast on 30 May 1990.
