Motivation
[edit]- The granting of a scholarship to a person by an entity / official body
Mi motivación es poder crear una base de datos con todos los pensionado de JAE (junta de ampliacion de estudios) deberia de poder marcar fecha de inicio/fin de la beca y centro/organismo/entidad/fundación que la concede y lugar en el que se cursa. – The preceding unsigned comment was added by Quimper200 (talk • contribs) at 10:27, 22 November 2017 (UTC).

Discussion
[edit]- @Quimper200: you have not included your proposal in its parent category, which is why a large red text ("You have not transcluded your proposal on Wikidata:Property proposal/Person yet. Please do it.") appears at the top. This is necessary so that people can discover your proposal and comment on it. − Pintoch (talk) 16:05, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- This appears to be resolved. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:54, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose Appears to duplicate sponsor (P859). (Otherwise, the datatype should be "Item"). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:54, 29 July 2018 (UTC)
- Support as "received grant or scholarship from". @Pigsonthewing: The proposal is more specific and more commonly used than sponsor (P859). sponsor (P859) should be restricted to stuff like construction projects, community programs, or services in exchange for advertising. - @Mr. Guye: Any reason you think « sponsor » should be restricted to those cases ? author TomT0m / talk page 10:16, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- @TomT0m: Because those are things that are actually referred to as being "sponsored" by entities. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 16:14, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Mr. Guye: Ok, I get it. Maybe there should be both subproperties of « financed by » to emphasise the common trait between the philanthropic or commercial money donation. Although you did not comment on my question below, this probably should be a qualifier on the formation or the grant itself, it’s better (if it’s unknown, we can use author TomT0m / talk page 17:29, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- @TomT0m: I like the idea of introducing a new property called "financed by". That's exactly what we need. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 18:01, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

- Question Should not this be a qualifier of the scholarship or study item ? author TomT0m / talk page 10:16, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- @TomT0m: I'm not necessarily opposed to allowing it as a qualifier. — Mr. Guye (talk) (contribs) 17:55, 3 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Mr. Guye: I think it should always be used as a qualifier and never as a main statement property, as the grant is always given to achieve something, and that the main thing is that something. If we don’t know exactly which project or study or degree is financed, we use unknown value Help. It’s then easier to build your list, the query will be something like
if it’s always used as a qualifier. Otherwise if it’s sometime a qualifier and sometime a main statement, it’s something more complicated like?person ?prop [qv:financed by <Qorganisation>]
(the same in an infobox, different ways to say the same thing leads to more complicated lua code if you want to do this.) author TomT0m / talk page 18:12, 3 October 2018 (UTC){?person ?prop [qv:financed by <Qorganisation>] } union { ?person wdq:financed by <Qorganisation> } .

- Oppose String is the wrong data type for pointing to a organisation. Apart from that there are no examples and no explanation why the existing sponsor (P859) doesn't do the job for the examples. ChristianKl ❪✉❫ 17:15, 16 December 2018 (UTC)
