~ Leela making a deal with Mom to become a witch |
Wicked Witch Leela is the main protagonist villain of the Futurama episode "Anthology of Interest II". She is an alternate version of supporting protagonist Turanga Leela who stands in for both Dorothy and the Wicked Witch of the West in a segment that parodies The Wizard of Oz.
Like her mainstream counterpart, she is voiced by Katey Sagal, who also portrays Gemma Teller Morrow in Sons of Anarchy.
In "Anthology of Interest II"[]
When Professor Hubert J. Farnsworth gives the crew of The Planet Express the chance to ask his "What If?" machine whatever they want, Leela asks what it would be like if she found her true home. Farnsworth accidentally knocks her out with the machine's lever, and she dreams that she and her pet Nibbler are caught in a tornado that lands them on a planet reminiscent of The Wizard of Oz. Like Dorothy in that film, Leela crushes a wicked witch, and takes her ruby red shoes. She then meets Amy, the Cute Witch of the North, who tells her to follow the yellow brick road to ask the Professor to let her go home to Kansas. When Amy asks Leela if her new shoes come in women's sizes, Leela angrily crushes her with her ship's landing gear.
Along the way to the Professor, she meets the Scarecrow (Philip J. Fry), the Tin Man (Bender), and the Cowardly Lobster (Zoidberg), who all come along with her to meet the Professor. However, the Wicked Witch of the West (Mom) sends her flying monkeys (Walt, Larry and Igner) to kidnap Leela, the Scarecrow, and the Tin Man, while leaving the Cowardly Lobster to catch a cab.
Once she has Leela in her power, the Wicked Witch tells her that she has always wanted a daughter, and offers to adopt her and make her a witch. Leela agrees, on the condition that she gets to use her powers to hurt people "and not just dance around at the Equinox". Moments later, however, the Tin Man spills liquor on the Witch, melting her.
Leela and her compatriots make it to the Professor's Emerald City, where he grants the wishes of the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lobster. When he asks Leela if she wants to go home, however, she says she has changed her mind and now wants to be a witch. The Professor refuses, however, and tells her to click her heels three times and say, "There's no place like home" three times so she can once again live in poverty with her dull aunt and uncle in Kansas. Upon clicking her heels, however, Leela says, "I wanna be a witch," and uses her newfound magic powers to turn the Professor and her former friends into frogs. She gets her comeuppance, however, when she is doused with water from the Professor's upstairs toilet and melts.
The real Leela wakes up and tells her crewmates on the Planet Express that she was having a wonderful dream - "except you were there, and you were there, and you were there!"
