The Sandworms are major characters in the Dune franchise. They are desert-dwelling creatures and an autotrophic species that lived on the planet Arrakis; where the events that shape Paul Atreides take place.
Also known as Shai-Hulud to the Fremen civilization, are the apex predator of the planet, as well as the source, in some ways, of the Spice that makes Arrakis so important to many prominent people.
