Reiss is the primary main antagonist and villain of Seirei Gensouki and the mastermind behind practically everything bad happening currently in the Strahl Region. He has said several things that hint he is not human and has removed or suppressed any human emotions. So far his only known purpose is to control the power balance with the biggest countries from the Strahl region, controlling alliances, wars and monitoring the heroes, all the while working towards achieving that goal using various schemes. He uses four identities known so far: Reiss Vulfe, an ambassador of the Proxia Empire; Reiss, a member of the Heavenly Lion and Lucius's subordinate; Jean Bernard, a noble from the Rubia kingdom, and Fenris, the Pope of the Holy City of Tonelico. Of those names, his real one is unknown.
The details of his plans aren't known, if that plan is really his idea or if he's working under someone else; there isn't any way to prove the latter. He possesses knowledge from one thousand years ago, such as the method to create teleportation magic tools, producing revenants or modifying the bodies of other monsters for strengthening them. At the same time that he wanted to kidnap Celia for using her as a hostage in his plan for assassinating Rio, he wanted to kidnap Aishia too, using her as the material for creating something. It's unconfirmed if the times that he used magic thus far without magic formations and enchantments is due to him being capable of using spirit arts, or because he's in possession of magic tools from one thousand years ago that work similarly.
Reiss has another alias in the westernmost country closely connected to the Seven Wise Gods and the origin of the divine war 1000 years ago. In this county he is the Pope of the Holy City of Tonelico, a city housing an artificial labyrinth said to be the origin of demons and monsters. Reiss appears to be connected to the Administrator of the labyrinth, a young female child names Elle, who calles him big Brother Fenris. Reiss had no issues asking for monsters from the Administrator and the Administrator seemed to not be bothered by Reiss' presence. Furthermore this child was quickly able to identity Sora as a familiar of a transcendent and noticed the irregularities surrounding Rio.
Personality[]
Reiss is a true mystery. Throughout the story no one can say what are his goals, but due to his deeds he is the principal antagonist and a mastermind. Manipulating people like Lucius, Renji, Sylvia to kill Rio and finally the entire Proxia empire and the Arbor family as ambassador. He can be ruthless and sees other merely as a pawns for his shemes. He is behind all what happened badly in the story like since Flora's kidnapping (ironacally this allows Rio to rise). Reiss can be quite ruthless seeing other humans like a mere pawns for his schemes like when he killed without hesitation the one who failed to kidnapp Flora or a candidate for Heavenly Lion after he stole wywern's egg (which triggered the attack on seirei no tami). Charles Arbor is easily deceived by Reiss's flattery.
Abilities[]
- Spirit Art: Reiss has been seen doing things similar to the spirit arts, but it is still unconfirmed if he really can use them or if he is using magic tools from one thousand years ago.
- Monster taming: Reiss can give orders to monsters, the process he uses to put them under his control is still unknown.
- Monster modification: Reiss can modify the body of the monsters under his control for making them stronger, like how he gave demi dragons that could not previously spit fire that ability.
- Monster Creation: Reiss posses the knowledge and ability to turn humans into monsters via magic stones. We have seen him do this to create revenants and on Lucius. How he gained this knowledge is unknown.
- Shadow Pocket: Reiss can cover his body in darkness which he uses to store a variety of things, from magic tools, to the monsters under his control.
