Otto is a minor antagonist in Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first installment of the Indiana Jones franchise.
He was a Nazi Gestapo Agent whom accompanied Major Toht in obtaining the headpiece of the Staff of Ra from Marion Ravenwood.
He was portrayed by Matthew Scurfield.
Biography[]
Major Toht, Otto, and a trio of local thugs arrive at Marion Ravenwood’s bar to recover the headpiece of the Staff of Ra. Unwilling to give up the headpiece, Marion is interrogated by Toht. Just as he prepares to torture her, Indiana Jones comes to her rescue and whips the rod from Toht’s hands. He then draws a revolver and a fierce gunfight ensues.
Otto, having taken cover behind the stone chimney, fires at Jones with his MP-40, though none of his shots land. During Jones' subsequent scuffle with the local help, Otto rejoins Toht and observes. The largest of the three thugs manages to get Jones in a chokehold, though the fight is still even. Impatient and amused in equal measure, Toht orders Otto to "shoot zem both." Hearing this and understanding, however, the thug and Jones aim Jones' gun they were wrestling over and shot Otto several times, killing him. Otto's corpse would be left inside the bar and would soon be consumed by the fire that broke out during the shootout.
Partly as a result of Toht's order, the mission to obtain the headpiece was unsuccessful, although a copy of one side was burned into Toht's hand when he attempted to retrieve the medallion.
