Unfortunately, I had to update the mission objectives to include your death. Nothing personal, of course. I’m just following orders.
~ Gamma 2 to Piccolo

Gamma 2 is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Gamma 1) of the 2022 anime film Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. He is an android created by Dr. Hedo to help the Red Ribbon Army destroy the Z-Fighters (especially Piccolo Jr.). He is Piccolo's former arch-rival, before redeeming himself in the end.

He is voiced by Mamoru Miyano in the Japanese version, and by Zeno Robinson in the English dub.

Appearance[]

Like his twin Gamma 1, Gamma 2 wears a orange uniform with black boots and gloves. Gamma 2 has two fins upon his head and wears a blue cape. His uniform has a holster on the right side which holds his Gamma Blaster.

Personality[]

Gamma 2 refers himself as a superhero, despite being created to serve the Red Ribbon Army. This is due to Dr. Hedo programming him and Gamma 1 to have the mindset of a superhero. Gamma 2 is obsessed with posing in and out of battle as he likes doing it. He is more relaxed and jovial than Gamma 1. Gamma 2’s lax personality seems to have made him popular among the Red Ribbon Army.

History[]

Gamma 2 is sent by the Red Ribbon Army to fight Piccolo as a way of testing his strength, and attacks the Namekian during his meditation. Gamma 2 refuses to tell Piccolo who he is, but Piccolo realizes he is a member of the Red Ribbon Army due to the insignia being present on his costume. Due to this, Gamma 2 changes his plan from a test of strength to include Piccolo’s death. The android swiftly attacks Piccolo, who is confused by letters popping up during his attacks. Gamma 2 chastises Piccolo, as he believed the Namekian would be stronger. Piccolo charges in and lands attacks of his own, but Gamma 2 counters. Piccolo unleashes a barrage of Ki blasts, but Gamma 2 dodges all of them, then flies up to the sky to charge up a blast from his Gamma Blaster. The blast hits Piccolo and destroys the surrounding area, leaving a giant dust cloud. Believing he has killed Piccolo, Gamma 2 leaves. However, the android doesn’t realize that Piccolo is still alive and is following his trail.

Gamma 2 arrives back at the Red Ribbon Army base, reporting that he killed Piccolo with ease, but is chastised by Gamma 1 for not checking for Piccolo’s body. After going over the recording of the battle through Gamma 2’s eyes, Gamma 1 confirms that Piccolo is still alive. Gamma 2 doesn’t show any concern, though, believing that they will succeed if the time comes for a climactic battle.

Later on, Gohan arrives at the base to save Pan, who was kidnapped by the Red Ribbon Army. Gohan makes a beeline to Pan, but is swiftly kicked down by Gamma 2. Gamma 1 takes on Gohan. In an attempt to draw out Gohan’s power, a disguised Piccolo pretends to grab Pan, who feigns a scream of fear. Gamma 2 angrily shouts at Piccolo to let go of Pan, surprising the both of them.

Once Gohan awakens his true power, he puts Gamma 1 on the ropes. Dr. Hedo orders Gamma 2 to help out his counterpart, but is stopped by Piccolo, who has discarded his disguise. Gamma 2 mocks Piccolo and tells him not to run away again, but Piccolo goes on the offensive, catching the android off guard with the strength of his newly acquired Power Awakened transformation. Gamma 2 questions how Piccolo got stronger in such a short time span, but Piccolo doesn’t tell. Gamma 2 still boasts confidence in his abilities and the two fight. Gamma 2 gains the upper hand on Piccolo, the former saying he is Dr. Hedo’s greatest creation. Piccolo retorts that it’s a shame, believing that Gamma 2 is truly a good person following faulty orders, then launches a Special Beam Cannon. Gamma 2 blocks the attack with an energy shield, angrily telling Piccolo that he and Gamma 1 were made to follow orders. Piccolo tells Gamma 2 that while he may have been given orders from Dr. Hedo, those orders could be based on Commander Magenta’s false information, to which the android vehemently denies and kicks Piccolo in the stomach, the two continuing their fight before landing on a Red Ribbon Army train. Piccolo tries to reason with Gamma 2, telling the android he must feel something isn’t right. Gamma 2 stubbornly refuses to accept this and furiously attacks Piccolo, then swinging him in the air and landing a double axe handle square in the Namekian’s chest, sending him into a dark chasm. Just then, Piccolo transforms and rises out of the chasm with his Orange Piccolo transformation. Getting more frustrated, Gamma 2 rushes at Piccolo and lands multiple punches, but to no avail. Piccolo fiercely punches Gamma 2 once with intense power, ending their fight.

Despite being defeated, Gamma 2 is able to see Magenta and Carmine attempting to flee the scene of the fight, with Pan chasing after the two. After Carmine tries to shoot Pan multiple times, Gamma 2 uses his blaster to disarm Carmine, expressing that he now has figured out who the real villains are. This allows Pan to swiftly defeat Carmine. Piccolo orders Gohan to stop fighting, and tells Gamma 2 that they have misunderstood each other, the android nodding in agreement.

After the conflict settles down, Gamma 2 tells Gamma 1 that the situation at hand has changed. However, things take a turn for the worse when everyone hears a roar from below the Army. Dr. Hedo emerges from below and informs the Gammas that Cell Max has activated. Cell Max emerges from below and screams, unleashing a massive energy sphere that engulfs a great amount of the Army’s base and closes in on Hedo. The Gammas charge into the sphere to save him, but the energy sphere dissipates. Gamma 2 despairs, but Gamma 1 tells him that they can do it, and the two fly directly at Cell Max. Gohan, Piccolo, Goten, Trunks, and Android 18 follow suit to help the androids. Gamma 1 tells them to attack Cell Max’s head, as this was a weak spot added by Hedo. Gamma 2 warns them that once his head is blown off, it will set off a chain reaction and detonate Cell Max’s body, meaning they will be caught in the explosion.

Everything the Z Fighters and the Gammas do wounds up being to no avail, as even a giant charged blast from Gamma 2’s blaster leaves no scratch on Cell Max. Goten and Trunks attempt Fusion, but Trunks messes up the alignment of his left finger, resulting in a failed Fusion of fat Gotenks. Gotenks heads to Cell Max anyway, but is swatted away by the giant android’s tail. Gotenks’ body is sent flying to Android 18, who smacks it to Gamma 2, who kicks it to Gamma 1, who finally axe handles the rotund fusion directly onto Cell Max’s head, resulting in a significantly sized crack. This drives Cell Max into a bigger frenzy, who fires off hundreds of blasts from his mouth. Left with no other options, Gamma 2 takes matters into his own hands and orders everyone to hold Cell Max off and not worry about landing the finishing blow. Gamma 1 realizes his counterpart’s plan to sacrifice himself and panics, but Gamma 2 says they have no other choice. Gamma 1 offers to go with Gamma 2, but the latter tells him to save Dr. Hedo, who is still alive. Gamma 2 charges a large amount of Ki around himself, telling everyone to get out of the way once he comes in for the finishing blow, and soars high into the atmosphere.

Gamma 2 eventually charges enough energy, then shoots straight down for Cell Max’s head. Seeing this, everyone gets out of the way. Krillin arrives to the fight to blind Cell Max with a Solar Flare. Gamma 2 crashes down onto Cell Max, who is barely able to block his final attack with his left arm which is destroyed in the process. Due to the nature of his final attack, Gamma 2 is left motionless on the ground with sparks of blue electricity surrounding his body. Cell Max attempts to stomp on the android’s body, but Piccolo stops him. This allows Gamma 1 to retrieve Gamma 2’s body and lay him next to Dr. Hedo. Gamma 2’s death is shortly avenged by Gohan, who kills Cell Max. Gamma 1 and Dr. Hedo watch as his body turns into ashes and blows away in the wind.

Trivia[]

  • Gamma 2's name is from the Greek letter Gamma (Γ) which is engraved on the buckle of his belt.
  • His primary color being blue, fighting style that involves sprinting, and overall jocular personality may be inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog (who, in a reversal of the franchises, has a Super Sonic state visually similar to Dragon Ball Z's Super Saiyan)
