Kaze no Kobushi (風の拳 Kaze no Kobushi?, "Fist of the Wind"), and its perfected version the Kaze no Kobushi・Fumetsu (風の拳・不滅 Kaze no Kobushi・Fumetsu?, "Fist of the Wind: Indestructible") is a technique first utilized by Ryu in the Street Fighter III: Ryu Final manga by Masahiko Nakahira. The move has been incorporated in several video games.
Description
Ryu assumes a stance, collects a large amount of ki energy, and releases it in a single blow at the same moment his opponent attacks. The move likely draws inspiration from Masutatsu Ōyama, who believes the ideal way of winning a fight is to defeat his opponent with one attack (Ichigeki, 一撃). Both Kaze no Kobushi and Ryo Sakazaki's Tenchi Haoh Ken bears a resemblance as they both draw inspiration from the same martial artist, with Ryu even saying ichigeki hissatsu (一撃必殺) during the attack in the climax of Ryu Final, and the two performing their moves in official artwork from SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters DS.
Video game appearances
- The move was planned to be Ryu's Finishing Move in the cancelled Capcom Fighting All-Stars. Ryu can be seen using the attack in a promotional trailer for the game.
- Ryu uses the move as his Focus Attack in the Street Fighter IV series, and by extension, the Project X Zone and Super Smash Bros. series.
- Ryu performs the attack at the end of his Cross Art in Street Fighter X Tekken.
- In Ultra Street Fighter IV's OMEGA Mode, Ryu gained the Hanagashi move, and its two follow-ups, Tesshin and Isshin, resemble the attack from the manga.
- In the Street Fighter V Story Mode, A Shadow Falls, Ryu uses the move to finish off Necalli.
- In Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Ryu gained a second V-Trigger, the Kakko Fubatsu, which allows him to perform the Isshin, a powerful counter move that leaves the opponent in a crumple state.
- In Street Fighter 6, Ryu has Shingeki for his Drive Impact, similar in appearance and functionality to his Focus Attack.
