Gosh - there is only one more block to go! It doesn't seem that long ago we started on this SAL Quilt.
This month at least I stuck to the pattern - almost!

1st SAL.....Peg, Dale and I committed to stitching Anni Downs - A Gardener's Journal in March. December - Susan Oh 2 Sew
Oops - almost the end of December and I haven't posted my December block - those two Quilt Police will be after me!!! LOL
As I have mentioned before, this quilt will be for my eldest daughter and she had requested a few...well quite a few...design changes. So the ginger bread man became a tree... I will add a star later.
I didn't stick to the "plan" when making this, so already had the bottom section of hearts and stars joined to the end pieces.
In fact I haven't stuck to the plan at all as I have the house block started as well.
Since we were going to visit eldest daughter & husband (who live in Townsville) for Christmas this year - and it is the first time she has been away from Brisbane for Christmas, I joined the blocks I did have and took it with me so that she could enjoy it.
There is a lot to go and I need to unpick those seams - I did use a long stitch - but I'm happy with how it's coming along.
Certainly a commitment to have it finished well before Christmas 2018.

October - Susan Oh 2 Sew
Ooops - I was early last month and very late for October!
Here is my October block - another re-design - based on the future recipient's request - apologies again Michelle.
It does look a bit bare - the reindeer will get an eye and the background will get quilted with some snowflakes and maybe some "landscape" detail.

September - Susan Oh 2 Sew
I know its early in the month - but I have a block to share - it IS my September block - it will go in the middle of the top row - instead of the "Family/Hearts" block.
This quilt will be for my eldest daughter who likes to remember the reason for the season . . .so it had a bit of a re-design...like a few more of the blocks to come.
I hope everyone is enjoying their stitching - we would love to see some more posts...it doesn't matter if you are behind - just show us what you ahev done. There are NO Quilt Police on this beat.

August - Susan Oh 2 Sew
Here is my August block....no eyes on the gingerbread man yet - maybe some embroidery to add later.
I have changed the position where this one will sit in the quilt so the sashing blocks are the opposite to the pattern.

June - Susan Oh 2 Sew
Ready and raring to go - June's block is done.
I opted out of the May small project but I have been secretly prepping since I signed up.
To be able to fit this into an already overloaded schedule (darn that I still work), I am "streamlining" my approach - machine applique and maybe no stitchery - still pondering that one...
Here is my Block #1 for now.
It's great to see a few early starters.

Hello from Susan (oh2sew)
While we are waiting for the real fun to begin - I think it's a great idea to have some introductions.
Like Fiona, I know many of you from previous Stitch-A-Long projects - and you may have seen me cracking the whip on a few occasions in the earlier projects on behalf of Chookyblue.
I couldn't resist supporting Fiona, Raewyn and Michelle, so I am joining in too.
I am only using my Christmas stash. I will be taking a few short cuts (sorry to Michelle...but there are only so many hours in a day and far too many projects....)
I've included a picture of the Christmas stash here
- it will be interesting to see if it is any reduced after this quilt is made...I suspect not.
Status:I have the fabrics sorted, I have copied the pages ready for tracing and I'll sort threads as I go.
A brief bio:
Originally from Sydney, now living in Brisbane, Queensland.
(1 DH, 2 DDs, one dog, one cat)
Started on the patchwork trail in about 1984...some of my stash must be that old!!
I have many UFOs - although over a 2 year period I was able to finish off at least 24...the ones left need a fair amount of work, so they are slower to finish.
I am still in paid employment - work seriously hinders my crafting journey....and since I blog, belong to 3 sewing groups and find it hard to say "no"...(to patchwork things)....I have far too many things on the go all at once. I know that is not unusual.
My blog is here...in case you want to look, but it has been a bit neglected of late.
Welcome to you if you haven't joined in a Stitch-A-Long before - the group motivation is very helpful and the monthly timetable really will help to keep you on track....well that is the plan anyway.
The Countdown is on . . . 16 sleeps....

Finished - Susan Oh 2 Sew
I had this finished by the end of February, but wanted to keep quiet until after GDITC in Nundle...so here it is all done.
sorry the photo is a bit lop sided ...I'll replace it one day,,,
I had Anni sign the label too.
Thanks everyone who participated in the SAL - and a huge congratulations to the "Champions" and well done to the "Toppers"!
Without the SAL I wouldn't have got it finished.
I'm sure know there are another few tops & quilts ready to be posted...just waiting to update the side bar - so please post!!!

It's a Top!!!!
Yahoo - I have finished the top.
It needs de-threading and ironing and I am thinking of an extra border...as if it is't big enough already....but I can legitimately say its a finished Top.
It was a bit hard to get it all in but you get the idea...and only a few "Dawnifications"...lol
Quilting??? - hopefully January/February so it's ready to take to Nundle.

Back into it
I am now on Annual Leave - we have a Company Shut Down - this year from 16th December (I won't comment any further on that decision....), so I have promised myself a certain number of hours of domestic duties (erk) per day and then I can sew. I have a lot on my To Do List - including Nature's Journey.
Being my first day I didn't want to overdo the domestic stuff - so I allocated 40 minutes and then finished trimming my blocks. Now I can start arranging them.
So, Hows it going girls?? - we have had one recent finish from Oddbjørg - a total of 5 now and we have 20 finished tops.
I know this is a frantic time of the year for some, so maybe not before Christmas....but perhaps some of us will be able to get back to it after Christmas??
We would like to see more finished quilts of course - but more finished tops would be wonderful...you don't really want another UFO lying around do you???
Do I need the whip again???

September Progress Susan Oh 2 Sew
Phew!
The strips for the top bottom & sides...
Its times like this that I wish I had cut back my applique blocks when I stitched them...oh well - not too much to do to get the top done....
Great to see so many tops done and all the progress pics as well - keep on sewing ...not long to go . . . ..

Just a thought
Today on Instagram (cringe Chookyblue) I noticed a comment by Fiona (Peaceful Threads) on a post by Jeanette (Nette's Quilting Nook) saying she was going to cut 5" squares instead of the 2" square 9 patch blocks.....
"Darn" I thought as I read it - I could have done that too - I am not a "stick to the rules" sort of person and regard patterns as a starting point and an inspiration to make something and I am not saying I cut corners for the sake of speed, but there are priorities in everything you do - and when you work and have a pile of other projects and Christmas is looming (and an '0' Bithday for DH)....well sometimes an "adaptation" might work.
So, I'll leave it with you...if you haven't already cut your gazillion squares and don't mind being a rebel...it might be worth a try...I don't have any pictures to share with you - just a concept.
And apologies to Anni for deviating off the Journey.

In Progress - Susan Oh2Sew
It was a Public Holiday in Brisbane today - for People's Day at the Royal Exhibition Show - fondly referred to as "The Ekka".
I took the opportunity to hide in SSS and added the peeper, the creamy squares and blue border to my SAL project. I still have those squares to cut, tack and sew....

Less than half way through the month - how are you going???

July block - Susan Oh 2 Sew
Here 'tis
I haven't done the border yet - I had planned on using the blue at the side but might reconsider this when I've done the next section. There could be a few legs & bits missing too but for now I need to move onto some other stuff.....and since I have the power of the "tick" - I'll call it done!!
I think its just one of those days - I can't even get the photo clear where the butterfly is...so here is the close up - I will add some antennae later...along with the legs on the bird and lady beetle etc etc.

July - Almost - Susan Oh 2 Sew
What a great effort everyone - some gorgeous centre blocks being posted!
I have done most of my block but it's not happening tonight - maybe over the weekend....
Just one flower to stitch - flying critters to cut and add and the border....as I said MAYBE over the weekend.
I will update the side bar over the weekend in case you are finished and I have commented and you are feeling overlooked!!!

June Done - Susan Oh 2 Sew
Cruising along this month - it's only the 18th and these have been finished for a few days . .
I swapped the circles of squares for another hexie flower and star....I am not too sure about the red ladybirds either...the red might pop too much when its all together ...but I can't do a lady bird in any colour other than red...
(I think there is a word for being too pedantic...but let's no go there...)
I've made a start on July...got all the shapes ready to go . . .need to play with the background idea and I will be cutting some extra strips as I get all the fabrics out to get ready for those squares that are coming up.
I love seeing all the blocks and all the variations...keep posting girls - progress shots are encouraging for everyone else too.

May - Susan Oh2Sew
It's all done - and a week to spare!!
Sorry - no bees - at this stage for me - and when you have initials of SEW its hard to not use them all together. I've made a good start on June and even have some pieces cut for the big middle block - trying to get ahead so I can work on some other projects that need to get done.
