Heklu were a non-sentient, amphibious species native to the planet Riileb^[1] in the Riileb system^[2] of Hutt Space. The species' meat was considered a delicacy on many Core Worlds, and transporting heklu was one of the only reasons merchants found that made visiting the creatures' homeworld worthwhile.^[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The heklu were first mentioned in the thirteenth issue of the Star Wars roleplaying game series the Star Wars Adventure Journal, published by West End Games in 1997. The species was mentioned in an article titled "Alien Encounters," written by Brian Smithson.^[1] A reduced version of the article was reprinted in Alien Encounters, a collection that included all "Alien Encounters" articles, compiled by Paul Sudlow in 1998.^[3]
