Gala-Na (died 3237) is a character that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. She was the High Councilor of the Albion High Council, and thus leader of the echidnas of Albion. Many of her policies and decisions were controversial and extreme, such as those made during the High Sheriff crisis or following Knuckles' evolution. However, she has always acted in the name of the "greater good" and her intentions were good. Gala-Na was captured following Albion's destruction at the hands of the Eggman Empire.
Personality[]
Gala-Na believes that all the Echidnas of Mobius should be united in Albion, and resents the Brotherhood of Guardians for denying her pleas to bring the echidnas of Echidnaopolis back to Albion. She is incredibly determined, willing to do whatever it takes to achieve her objectives.
Gala-Na was initially depicted with lilac fur, light blue eyes, and yellow robes, with pink sandals and rings in her dreadlocks. However, she later appeared with red fur, purple eyes, and goldenrod robes.
History[]
Gala-Na was first seen by the outside world when Knuckles the Echidna brought the Lost Tribe of Echidnas to Albion in 3236. Arriving on the shores of the city's island, Gala-Na welcomed the Lost Tribe, which had been searching for Albion for hundreds of years, suffering many hardships along the way. Upon arrival, Gala-Na explained the history of Albion to Knuckles and the Lost Tribe before the tribe joined the city's population.[1]
The High Sheriff Dilemma and Chaos Knuckles[]
After the High Sheriff was defeated by Rob O' the Hedge, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, he was delivered to Albion where he was confined. Following the arrival of Dr. Eggman to Mobius Prime, Gala-Na and the Albion High Council deemed the High Sheriff too great a threat to simply release, and thus voted to have him dismantled. However, Knuckles, Antoine (son of the High Sheriff), Bunnie, Amy and Rob O' the Hedge went to Albion to discover what had become of the former Sub-Boss of Mercia. As they came closer to Albion, the High Council, watching them on video screens, debated why they would have outsiders coming to their city. Gala-Na was still unable to comprehend one of her own kind had rejected living in the motherland, to which Yanar and Councilor Rita-Le responded that Knuckles was simply doing what he was taught. She welcomed Knuckles and the others upon their arrival and offered them accommodation for the night. The following day, Knuckles was shocked to learn of Albion's decision to dismantle the High Sheriff. When Knuckles fought to contain the rampaging High Sheriff, he evolved into Chaos Knuckles. Recognizing he now possessed powers similar to Dimitri (given the similarity in his appearance when he turned into Enerjak in the video files Albion received from Steppenwolf hundreds of years ago) she realized something needed to be done. Before she could continue however, Antoine arrived on the scene and implored Gala-Na to allow him to take his father back to Knothole. (StH: #89, #90)
Despite him bringing a device given to him by Rotor which would keep the High Sheriff in stasis, Gala-Na refused to allow him to be taken away, as there was no guarantee the device would work, and the High Sheriff posed a major threat to Albion's security. When she ordered Albion security forces to prepare their weapons to destroy the High Sheriff, Chaos Knuckles teleported Antoine, Bunnie and the High Sheriff onto their ship, defying Gala-Na. As a result, she realized something needed to be done about Chaos Knuckles' powers. (StH: #89, #90)
Gala-Na's solution to Chaos Knuckles was to drain his powers until he returned to normal. When Knuckles refused to go along with this plan, Gala-Na hired the bounty hunters Nic and Nack the Weasel to capture him, feeling that Knuckles was their responsibility to deal with as he was one of their own kind. Knuckles was successfully captured by Nic and Nack, who were then paid and told to forget the entire matter. (StH: #90, #91, #93)
Following this, Gala-Na had the brilliant Albion scientist Dr. Finitevus use his device, the Chaos Siphon Suit to drain Knuckles of his powers. Gala-Na explained to Knuckles "As much as I wish we could avoid all this unpleasantness, Knuckles, the fact remains you've demonstrated abilities possible surpassing those of Dimitri himself! That being the case, it's up to us to do everything we can to nullify that threat - including resorting to the use of a Chaos Syphon itself!". After saying that, the Chaos Siphon Suit was activated, and Knuckles' energy began to drain. However, Charmy Bee and Saffron Bee arrived on the scene and assumed Knuckles was being hurt, deciding to stop the process. When the Chaos Siphon Suit was de-activated, Knuckles retained his power and teleported away. Gala-Na, hoping to rectify the situation, attempted to re-hire Nic and Nack to re-capture Knuckles, which the weasels quickly declined. (StH: #94)
Dr. Finitevus's Betrayal[]
Due to absorbing vast amounts of Chaos radiation through the Chaos Siphon Suit, Dr. Finitevus mutated into an albino echidna with incredible powers. At first Gala-Na, like many others, assumed the changes were for the best. But as Dr. Finitevus began condemning the state of the world and using his new powers to create dangerous inventions, a vote was called to decide what to do with him. Gala-Na's vote was the deciding factor which called for his euthanasia. Although Finitevus was placed in custody, he soon escaped his prison via Warp Ring, which left Gala-Na and the others uneasy. In 3237, Dr. Finitevus provided Dr. Eggman with Albion's secret location. Additionally, he used his Warp Rings to sneak into Albion and sabotage its defenses, leaving the city entirely vulnerable to an attack. As the Eggman Empire's forces began their assault, Gala-Na made a holographic recording of herself explaining everything regarding Finitevus and Albion's destruction and apologizing for her actions. Shortly after she ended her recording, Gala-Na was discovered and captured. (StH: #182)

Trivia[]
- Karl Bollers planned to use Gala-Na as one of Robotnik's Sub-Bosses following Sonic the Hedgehog's year in space. However, this idea was dropped when Karl Bollers left the series after Sonic the Hedgehog #134.[2]
