The Shetland pony is a breed of pony. Shetland ponies are from the Shetland Islands. Shetland ponies can be as short as 26 inches (66 cm).[1]
History

Shetland ponies were first used for pulling carts. Shetland ponies were also used for moving peat and seaweed.[2][3]
The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society was started in 1890.[4] In 1957, the Shetland Islands Premium Stallion Scheme was made.[source?]
Many pony breeds come from Shetland. One of them is the American Shetland Pony in the United States.[source?]
