Eboshi is the captain of the Jellyfish Pirates. He allies with the Straw Hat Pirates to stop Uta in One Piece Film: Red.[1][2]
Appearance[]
Eboshi is an average-sized man with blond hair that covers one side of his face. He has black tentacle-like tattoos on his forehead, left chest, and left arm. He wears a blue unbuttoned shirt, a purple cape with spiked shoulder pieces, and light blue pants with a belt and a yellow draped garment over them. The yellow garment also has yellow tentacle-like decorations hanging from it and a black logo of a jellyfish. On his head, he wears a magenta bicorne with his crew's jolly roger.
During the battle against Uta, Eboshi received a black battle outfit.[2]
Personality[]
Eboshi can be coniving and selfish, interrupting Uta's performance with the hopes of kidnapping her and holding her for randsom from the Red Hair Pirates. He is confident in his and his crew's abilities, and he showed no fear when opposing the Big Mom Pirates, a crew of one of the Four Emperors, or the Straw Hat Pirates. He was startled by Uta when she said she would turn him and his crew into a song. Despite his selfish interests, he was willing to put them aside to team up with the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies to put a stop to Uta's plans.[2]
Abilities and Powers[]
As captain over the Jellyfish Pirates, Eboshi has authority over his crew.[1] Eboshi has also significant stamina, having sustained attacks from Roronoa Zoro and Tot Musica without significant injury, aside from being knocked back.[2]
Swordsmanship[]
Eboshi wields a cutlass and is skilled enough to use it to launch an air slash, but unlike most compressed air projectiles, it is pink and has a winding shape to it, similar to a jellyfish tentacle.[1]
History[]
Wano Country Saga[]
One Piece Film: Red[]
Eboshi, Kaginote, and Hanagasa watched the beginning of Uta's performance and plotted to kidnap her after her first song. They went onstage to corner her but were interrupted by Charlotte Oven and Charlotte Brûlée, who had the same plans. The Straw Hat Pirates confronted both groups to protect Uta. Eboshi slashed at Zoro but was easily deflected and struck down. Uta eventually stopped the fighting and suggested that Eboshi and his crew stop being pirates to stay with her. They laughed at her and declared they would never quit piracy, so Uta decided to turn the interrupting pirates into a song, capturing Eboshi, his crew, Oven, and Brûlée and fixing them to a musical staff.
The Straw Hat Pirates (minus Luffy) were later captured, as well. As everyone hung suspended on the staff, Koby and Blueno appeared to recruit allies in the fight against Uta. Koby and Nico Robin simultaneously realized that singing the notes where their heads were placed would free them. After Brook sang the notes to free himself and his crew, the Jellyfish Pirates agreed to a temporary truce with the Straw Hat Pirates, SWORD, CP0, and Big Mom Pirates. They were all freed and hid in the ruins of Elegia's city.
Eboshi participated in the final fight against Uta, receiving a battle outfit as a reaction to Uta singing and summoning Tot Musica.
After the fight's conclusion and the escape from Uta World, Hanagasa and his crew became fans of Uta's and danced to her music being broadcasted over a Den Den Mushi.[2]

Trivia[]
- His name is likely derived from the Portuguese man o' war, known in Japanese as katsuo no eboshi (カツオノエボシ?). This fits the jellyfish theme of his crew.
- Eboshi's Japanese voice actor, Yuki Yamada, previously played Joe Gibken/Gokai Blue on Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, which many fans have speculated to be based on One Piece.
