Meta-Knights

The Meta-Knights are a faction in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Adventure. They are Meta Knight's bumbling but loyal crew of mercenaries, that make their base in Orange Ocean on the edge of Dream Land. Originally antagonists, they became allies of Kirby, alongside Meta Knight, starting with Kirby & the Amazing Mirror and Kirby's Return to Dream Land. The Meta-Knights often aid Meta Knight in building and repairing his vehicles and machinery, including the Battleship Halberd and Heavy Lobster, as well as providing routine maintenance work on his mask and armor. Their lives prior to the Kirby series are unknown but many hold a great deal of respect for Meta Knight to the extent that they are willing to lay down their lives for him. With the exception of Sailor Dee and Captain Vul, all the Meta-Knights are named after the weapons they specialize in. The crew consist of; Ax Knight, Mace Knight, Trident Knight and Javelin Knight, with Sailor Dee and Captain Vul added in Kirby Super Star.

Axe Knight[]

Axe Knight is the youngest of the Meta-Knights. He is a black spherical creature with purple feet and white gloves, that wears a skull mask and red viking helmet. Axe Knight uses his axe as a close-range weapon and can also throw it like a boomerang. Although he can be a bit scatterbrained, he nonetheless looks up to Meta Knight like an older brother.

Mace Knight[]

The muscle of the group. Mace Knight wears purple armor with blue feet, purple pauldrons with yellow trimming and a purple tunic with an ankle length skirt. He is the second largest Meta-Knight after Captain Vul and like Vul, he is the only one to possess a distinct torso. Mace Knight wields a ball-and-chain flail to deliver bone crushing blows and his thick armor gives him higher HP than the other Meta-Knights.

Trident Knight[]

Trident Knight is second-in-command to the Meta-Knights after Meta Knight. He wears purple armor, with a samurai-like helmet adorned with the crescent moon and has red feet. Trident Knight seems to be somewhat of a tech guru and can fly thanks to the jetpack installed on the back of his armor. His trident is also electrified which can stun opponents he stabs or throws it at.

Kirby's Adventure and Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land[]

The Meta-Knights first appearance. Their boss was hired by King Dedede to guard a piece of the Star Rod and keep it out of the hands of Nightmare. They appear as mini-bosses in various levels from the second world onward, usually called by Meta Knight himself. Unlike other mini-bosses, they act as a gauntlet spawning in a set number of waves until Meta Knight decides to call them off. The members consist of Axe Knight, Mace Knight, Trident Knight and Javelin Knight. They don't give copy abilities and can be inhaled without being defeated, however, it takes a couple of seconds to work during which time Kirby can be attacked by the others in the group.

Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra[]

The Meta-Knights are the main antagonists of the subgame Revenge of Meta Knight. Building the massive Battleship Halberd, they attempt to take over Dream Land in order to end the "lazy lifestyle" of the Dream Landers, as Meta Knight believes it to be harmful to their continued existence in the face of threats like Nightmare and Dark Matter. In addition to Axe, Mace, Trident and Javelin Knight, two new members of the Meta-Knights appear; Captain Vul and Sailor Dee. Thru ought the subgame, the crew can be herd speaking over the intercom of the Halberd. It consists of Axe Knight, Mace Knight, Sailor Dee and Captain Vul in the dialogue, and Javelin Knight and Trident Knight are not in the dialogue. Axe Knight and Mace Knight are fought, but Sailor Dee and Captain Vul aren't.

Kirby: Planet Robobot[]

Axe Knight, Mace Knight, Trident Knight and Javelin Knight appear in Meta Knight's playable story mode; Meta Knightmare Returns where they are summoned by Meta Knight during his Meta Knightmares special attack. For a cost of 35 Meta Points, Meta Knight summons the Meta-Knights to deliver a full screen attack that takes out weaker enemies and does massive damage to bosses. Meta Points are gained by defeating enemies with Galaxia or by finding them hidden in the game world.

Additionally, while they aren't mentioned directly or shown on screen, the Meta-Knights are the ones who rebuilt the Halberd after it was shot down by Haltmann Works in the games intro cutscene. According to the official Kirby Twitter: Meta Knight was able to land the damaged Halberd in a hidden cove, before attempting to take on Haltmann's army by himself, taking out over half of his forces before being overwhelmed and captured by Susie in her executive armor.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe[]

Sailor Dee makes a cameo appearance in the background of the village after the player completes the Whispy Woods ordeal quest. He is seen chasing a butterfly. Since Team Kirby Clash Deluxe is set in the parallel universe of the Dream Kingdom, it's unknown if this version of Sailor Dee is also a member of the Meta-Knights. If so, he's most likely awaiting orders from them.

Kirby Battle Royale[]

The most recent appearance of one of the Meta-Knight, Axe Knight is Meta Knights teammate during King Dedede's Cake Royale: Gold League Qualifier Battle. The two enter the tournament so to test Kirby and Bandana Dee's teamwork skills. Axe Knight functions like a reskin of Cutter Kirby, performing all the same moves, though he uses his axe instead of a boomerang. Unlike the other rival characters, King Dedede and Meta Knight, he's not unlockable as a playable character.
