Inside the Deku Tree is the first dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It serves as a tutorial dungeon to let the player get used to the game's puzzle and combat mechanics. Link enters the Great Deku Tree in order to dispel the death curse placed upon him by Ganondorf after he refused to give the Gerudo King the Spiritual Stone of the Forest, the Kokiri's Emerald. The source of the curse turns out to be a parasitic monster, Queen Gohma, that's attacking the tree's roots. Using his newly acquired slingshot, Link is able to slay the parasite and break the curse, but is too late to save the Deku Tree, who entrusts him with the Kokiri's Emerald and instructs him to find Princess Zelda before passing away.

Upon entering, the first thing for Link to do is climb to the second floor using either the vines on the wall or nearby ladder, acquiring the Dungeon Map, then take on a Deku Scrub to acquire the dungeon's main item, the Fairy Slingshot, which allows Link to attack enemies at a distance and also hit certain switches.
She attacks by rearing up on her tail and attempting to stomp Link, and will occasionally climb up the ceiling to lay eggs that hatch Gohma Larvae if Link doesn't quickly destroy them with his sword. Her weakness is her eye, which you hit with a pellet from your slingshot and then attack her with your sword. It is a good idea to use Deku Nuts in this battle, because they stun her for a short time, giving you ample time to attack with sword jumps for extra damage.
