Daruk (JP), is one of the main characters in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. He is a Goron warrior and the chosen Champion of his people and as such he is one of Link's allies 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild and wears the same blue scarf as Revali, Urbosa, Princess Mipha, Link and Princess Zelda. Daruk is able to create a magic shield, called Daruk's Protection to defend himself, and wields a powerful Boulder Breaker. Yunobo who is descended from Daruk also possess this quirk, meaning it is a hereditary ability. He makes a return in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

Personality[]

Daruk is very courageous at heart and is very devoted to his time with his goal of defeating Calamity Ganon shared by the other three Champions. He is quite calm and collected for the most part, but in battle or in high spirits, he is much more ferocious and louder than usual. Daruk is known for his good leadership skills, as evidenced when he took command of the situation when Ganon arrived and when he was asked to pilot Vah Rudania, Daruk immediately accepted his call to do so and selflessly vows that he will die to protect Hyrule by any means necessary and it still holds strong after being freed from imprisonment as a spirit, due to his undying loyalty since officially dubbing Link his sworn brother. He had embraced his role just as Mipha and Urbosa had done, while Revali hadn't fully embraced it until much later when the reality starts to kick in. He is very impressed by Link's strength, when he was distracted by Link's fighting style and hoped that the Hylian never saw him make that look. He quickly befriended Link when he saw how the two had something in common, strength and appetite and he would dub him his sworn brother and often addresses him as "little guy".

Because of his Goron upbringing, Daruk grew up with a simple lifestyle and stated that he, like the majority of the Gorons, had a love for eating rocks and his journal entries have recorded him eating Rock Roasts. Because he is accustomed to his lifestyle, Daruk is unfamiliar with Hylian diet, he does find Link's eating habits strange and that it was normal for them to eat anything that aren't rocks and encouraged him to eat his Grade A Rock Roast, and since Link successfully ate it, Daruk was even more mistaken at his belief that Hylians actually can eat rocks. Whether Link actually enjoyed it or not, from Daruk's point of view, he did enjoy its taste. Much later, when Daruk is concerned over the fate of his people since Ganon's return, he is assured of their survival at the sight of his descendent, Yunobo, who had been staring up at him and that their efforts had not once been in vain, making Daruk glad that he accepted his Champion status despite his unfortunate fate shared with the other Champions. He would continue to fight for his people, who saw him as a great hero who died a hero's death fighting Calamity Ganon.

Daruk cares a great deal about his friends and will do anything for them. He forms a brother-sister bond with the Zora Princess, Mipha when she asked him to assist with her training so she can handle stronger foes and be prepared for the battles ahead of her. Daruk apparently seems to be aware of her crush on Link, but he keeps this knowledge to himself as to maintain his respect and not embarrass her. He and Revali don't always get along quite well as their differing viewpoints on Link and opposing personalities tend to get in their way, with Daruk being open and outgoing while Revali is reserved and closed off, which all tend to create bouts of bickering between the two as Daruk disapproves of Revali's cold treatment towards Link and Revali snapping at him when slightly provoked. Despite all odds, Revali can be decent with Daruk in the best of times and respects him as a Champion and Daruk is deeply caring about the Rito. Daruk and Urbosa get along just fine, and they each want to help the younger Champions understand that they are Hyrule's future. Daruk has a positive relationship with Princess Zelda, whom he nicknames "tiny princess" and she is the only one who knows that Daruk has a serious fear of dogs, a trait he isn't proud to have and sought reassurance from her that Calamity Ganon is not a dog creature.

In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Daruk bonds with Yunobo as soon as the latter arrived to save Daruk from facing death at the hands of Fireblight Ganon and reminds him to keep his composure whenever Yunobo got scared and encourages him along the way. While Daruk isn't fond of being addressed by formalities, he remains supportive of him. In the Guardian of Remembrance DLC, when Yunobo opens up about his past as a consistent coward who fears everything until a certain friend guided him to become braver, Daruk took his hand and raised it and reassure him that he is proud to have him as a descendent and even went as far as to call him the Champion of the Future. He then reminds him to give his friend his regards whenever he gets back to his own time.

Appearance[]

Daruk Artwork (Breath of the Wild)

Daruk's appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Daruk has a bulky muscular build with large hands with his nails being white. He has dark gold skin and a dark brown rough rock attached to his back and has white eyebrows, mustache, beard, and hair on his shoulders and wrists. Before becoming a Champion, Daruk's adornments consist of brown chains with a red Goron symbol on the center of the diamond shaped buckle which also holds his Boulder Breaker on his back and has a pale white rope with a brown buckle around his waist. After becoming Champion, Daruk replaces his left shoulder chain with a blue sash that has a white Divine Beast Vah Rudania emblem on it.

History[]

End of the Timelines[]

100 years before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]

When Daruk was a kid, he was once a quiet timid child who has a terrible experience with dogs, the very creatures would often chase him around and at one point, he accidentally stepped on the tail of one, which aggravated it, and to this day Daruk still fears them.

At an unknown point in time when Daruk was an adult, he used the Boulder Breaker to carve the valley at Gortram's Cliff in one night so that the Gorons have easier access to the Rock Roasts. It was rumored that Daruk would use the Boulder Breaker to fan himself.

Daruk began taking up journal writing, and he scoffs at the thought of calling it a diary and would rather call it his training journal. He hears that all one must do is write stuff that happened on that day. Because Gorons are adapted to a simple lifestyle, Daruk hoped that simple things count and wonders what to write about and quickly decides to write about the Rock Roast that he ate and loved it and plans on having more of it.

Daruk was met with some Hylians and the number one topic was all about Calamity Ganon coming back, and he remembered the day when the Divine Beasts were being excavated with one of them being Vah Medoh. The Hylians were saying that the Divine Beasts were powerful weapons that someone must control. Daruk recalls the times when the Gorons didn't fuss so much about ancient relics that they could not eat and decides to search for a Prime Rock Roast to track down for dinner.

A few days later, while Daruk was looking for lunch, he saw someone being attacked and he saw a young man and is surprised that he can fight with a sword. He rolled down the hill to help him out but by the time he reached him, the Hylian had already slain all the monsters in his wake, which amazed him. Daruk was distracted to which he was almost ambushed by a monster, but the Hylian managed to kill it before Daruk got hurt. Daruk is slightly embarrassed that he, the mighty Goron was saved by someone smaller than him. He noted that he had a dopey look on his face and hoped that the Hylian never noticed.

Later, he learned that the Hylian he met was named Link. He had quite the appetite for almost everything, including fruits, vegetables, and meat, which bewilders Daruk since he himself was used to eating rocks and he had no idea that this is normal for Hylians. Link would eat anything he cooked, so Daruk offered him a Grade A Rock Roast to refine his palatte and asked how it tasted and assumed he liked it so much, he was speechless which adds to Daruk's misconception further about Hylians eating rocks. He discovered that eating isn't the only thing that he and Link have in common, it was also because they are also strong in their own right. Link describes his focus feeling as if time has slowed down, which had Daruk growing fond of him as he was someone he can count on and share a good meal. Daruk makes the definitive decision to officially give Link the title of "sworn brother".

BotW Champion Daruk's Song

Daruk speaks with Princess Zelda

Princess Zelda pays a visit to Goron City to inquire of Daruk's help in driving back Calamity Ganon by becoming the pilot for Divine Beast Vah Rudania. Daruk quickly accepts her request and is willing to lose his life to ensure peace stays in Hyrule. Zelda thanks Daruk and he goes on to explain the recent increase of monsters that have been appearing all over Hyrule and attacking people without cause and wonders if this was Ganon's doing but assures her that she shouldn't leave the castle without a horde of Gorons to watch her back. Zelda replies that he sounds like her father, as he is appointing a skilled knight to watch over her during her journey outside the castle and he is the top contender and the most accomplished swordsman of all the other soldiers. Daruk deduces that she is talking about Link, but he suddenly finds a horde of Bokoblins gathering on the same spot, and soon realizes that they are attacking someone, dubbing them cowards as he tells Zelda to stay back as he charges at them. With the Boulder Breaker in hand, he single-handedly defeats all the Bokoblins, forcing many of them to flee from him. Daruk calls them spineless little Cuccos as he declares that nothing stands before him and lets out a triumphant laugh. The princess sees the subject that they were targeting and assures it that it is safe. It is revealed to be a Hylian Retriever and it gratefully licks her face and praises Daruk for saving its life, but she finds the Goron cowering in fear when he realized what he had just saved and the moment it barked, he lets out a yelp and drops his Boulder Breaker and Daruk's protection surrounds him, to her surprise. As the dog leaves and wags its tail at them, Daruk tells it to stay safe and apologizes to Zelda for seeing that side of him and explains his bad experience with dogs as a child and still fears them to this day. Zelda replies that she didn't expect Daruk to have a weakness. Daruk then asks her if Calamity Ganon is a dog creature; after that the two begin to laugh.

Daruk records these events on his journal, and he never turns down anyone in need and Princess Zelda was happy when he accepted. He learns that there will be a total of four Champions using the Divine Beasts and one swordsman that owns the Master Sword who will face Ganon. Coupled with the princess, there will be six members of the anti-Ganon team who will all come from different races which excites Daruk to which he gave her the best rock roast. Zelda modestly thanked him and held back a grimace which Daruk believes that there is something afoul on her mind.

To prove himself worthy of being a Champion, Daruk underwent three trials that he must overcome. His trial consists of him fighting the Igneo Talus Titan at Lake Darman, going through the glowing rings down Death Mountain, and jumping into the glowing ring at Darb Pond.

The Champion Photo

Daruk pulls everyone together

Daruk attends the Champion inauguration ceremony with Link, Mipha, Revali, and Urbosa where King Rhoam officially dubs them official Champions and Princess Zelda had bestowed blue cloths upon them. Daruk had replaced one of his chains for his new sash that he wears over his left shoulder. After the ceremony, Daruk is happy to finally take a break from the ceremony as they tend to tire him out. Revali takes interest in the Sheikah Slate and takes it from Zelda's hand, and she explains that it has many uses but many of its secrets have yet to be uncovered, before he passes it to Mipha. When Urbosa notes that it can take photos, it gets Mipha's attention and asks Zelda for a favor. Soon Purah has everyone gathered on one spot and she instructs everyone to get into position until it was satisfactory, and when she snaps the photo, Daruk suddenly pulls everyone together at the last moment resulting in a funny outcome.

Daruk documents the inauguration ceremony, and he was happy to see Link again after a long while. Daruk has learned that Link will be appointed as Zelda's personal knight, and he was proud of him. He has heard of the time, one of the Guardians went berserk and began shooting lasers everywhere. Link used a pot lid to spring into action and deflect it, hitting its weak point and saved the day. King Rhoam was so amazed that he decided to appoint him as his daughter's knight. Daruk expects nothing less of him.

Daruk was present at Link's personal ceremony to become Princess Zelda's appointed knight, but Daruk noticed just how depressing it is, and how she's making it sound like they've already lost. Revali retorts that it was Daruk's idea to hold the ritual with all the "ceremonial pomp, grandeur, and nonsense they can muster", though he does agree at how dismal it was and showed a lack of faith in Link's abilities, before Urbosa tells him to stop his insolence and explains that Zelda likely sees Link as a reminder of her own failures.

Princess Zelda notices that Daruk was struggling to control Vah Rudania and she and Link head there to help calibrate it to make it easier for him to do so. He's only figured out how to get it to move yet there is still more to learn.

BotW Daruk's Mettle

Daruk talks with Link

With Link's help, Daruk starts to get the hang of controlling Vah Rudania after having struggled so much at first and strolls around the mountains with Link in tow and enjoys every minute of it. He tells Link to let the other Champions know that they should eat their gravel if they want to keep up with him. He soon admires the view and notes on the delectable rocks that his kind are adapted to eating and finds them tasty. Despite his lack of knowledge about Calamity Ganon, he vows that he will protect Hyrule to the death and slaps Link on the back, making the Hylian jump forward due to his strength. Daruk then congratulates Link on becoming Zelda's appointed knight and notes that protecting the daughter of the king is a big deal and tries not to pressure him too much more than he's already handling and reminds Link that Zelda has a strong personality and has trouble seeing the range beyond the peaks. He is soon interrupted by the shaking ground that dislodges boulders and one of them is headed in his direction, Daruk stands his ground and summons his forcefield to protect himself and Link, destroying it in the process. Daruk attempts to continue with their earlier conversation, but the strange earthquakes despite Death Mountain having been quiet for decades and worried about the size of the boulders it was sending down, but he dismisses this and tells Link to forget he said anything about it but remains concerned about this.

Daruk writes about these events on his journal, as he was the only one who struggled with controlling Vah Rudania while Mipha, Revali, and Urbosa had already mastered theirs. When Link arrived, he asked him for his advice, but Link just pushes him onto Rudania for him to traverse aimlessly. He isn't able to explain it but by the end of the day, he had a much better time controlling the Divine Beast. He realized that experience is certainly the best teacher and Link's strength came from working hard and never gives up which Daruk keeps this lesson in mind. He decides to treat him to some gourmet sirloin rock.

Eventually, Daruk noticed that what Link had been doing all this time was watching over Princess Zelda as she did her research. While her work had been tough, he noticed that Zelda is smiling more than usual and has been more talkative. Daruk also heard that Link was able to open up to her about his troubles regarding his responsibilities that he's dealing with as they were shoveling food. She also did the same thing when she replies that they are on the same boat. Daruk believes that they have been bonding over their food preferences. Daruk also learned something about himself that journal writing makes him hungry.

Link Zelda and The Champions

Daruk and the Champions bear witness to Ganon's return.

Daruk awaited at the East Gate with the other Champions as Link and Princess Zelda return from Mt. Lanayru where Zelda was training at the Spring of Wisdom. Daruk pleads them not to keep them in suspense and when a concerned Revali tells her if the results were the same as the previous training sessions and Zelda sadly replies that it was so. Urbosa insists that she must move on and tells her that pitying herself won't help with anything and she should find another way as anything would ignite her power. Mipha attempts to give advice to the princess before she is interrupted by the ground shaking. Revali flies up to see what was happening and as he flew down, having witnessed Calamity Ganon at Hyrule Castle. The Champions realize that Ganon had returned and Mipha asks if they're sure and Revali, having already seen these events, confirms so. Daruk then takes command of the situation and orders the Champions to go to their Divine Beasts and Link to head to Hyrule Castle. Urbosa tells Zelda to go somewhere safe, but the princess refuses and insists that she has to do something, even if she doesn't have her power at the moment.

Unfortunately, Daruk and the other Champions are not seen again after that. Daruk's route to Divine Beast Vah Rudania has him going through the Lanayru Wetlands and cut his way through Ternio Trail and Mountain Road all the way up Death Mountain and by the time he arrived, he saw that Vah Rudania has already been taken over by Fireblight Ganon. Despite being sealed inside the Divine Beast and putting up a huge fight, Daruk had fallen in battle as the Champions have similarly met their fates. After Zelda awakens her power to protect Link and seals Ganon and herself with it to end the devastation. The Gorons are downtrodden by Daruk's death and a monument of him was made on the mountain to ensure that Daruk is never forgotten.

During The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]

During Breath of the Wild, when Link reawakens in the Shrine of Resurrection, Calamity Ganon's power grows and can only manage to take remote control of the Divine Beasts to bring misery to their corresponding tribes. In Rudania's case, it was often causing eruptions to the point where the North Mine is forced to shut down when it was turned into a lava field and despite Yunobo and Bludo attempting to drive it away, it continued to come back to wreak havoc upon them. When Link arrived, he saved Yunobo by breaking open the cave entrance and later joins him to appease Vah Rudania. After forcing it into the crator, Link managed to get inside.

Daruk acknowledges his presence and had always believed that he would return, and he deduced that Link is here to take Rudania back from Ganon. He directs him to the Guidance Stones so he can distill the map of Vah Rudania's interiors and tells him to find the five terminals that would help him take it back from Ganon and with each terminal activated, Daruk cheers him on. With all five terminals active, Daruk tells Link to start the Main Control Unit and reminds him to keep his focus. When Link attempts to do so, Malice whirls around the unit and Fireblight Ganon appeared, and Daruk explains that it was the culprit behind his demise and wishes him luck.

Daruk's Protection

Daruk granting Link his power

After Fireblight Ganon was destroyed, Link activates the Main Control Unit as Daruk's spirit appears behind him and greets him. He thanks Link for freeing both him and Rudania, but he felt the need to apologize that his death has led to Hyrule's current state. But with Vah Rudania back under his control, he is sure that he can help him cripple Ganon's power and plans on taking the Divine Beast to Death Mountain's summit and once Link gets inside Hyrule Castle he will attack Ganon with it. Daruk then gives Link Daruk's Protection as a mean to thank him in the form of a glowing red orb. He tells him that his power now lives on within him and wishes him luck and to make sure to give Princess Zelda his regards as Link is warped out. With Rudania back under his control, he sets his sights on Hyrule Castle and he is satisfied with their angle and wait for the perfect opportunity so he can make his shot and when Link is in the castle, Rudania will bring such a blast that Ganon would not know what hit it. Daruk remarks that Hyrule looks great even after a hundred years and is initially concerned about the fate of his people before he finds Yunobo staring up at him, and he fist pumps triumphantly when the young Goron's presence meant that they are still thriving even after these events and Yunobo happily waved at him.

Daruk's spirit will appear Link uses Daruk's Protection, where he blocks an attack by an enemy which occurs if Link doesn't parry, and he will the warrior know when Daruk's Protection is fully recharged.

When The Champions' Ballad DLC Pack is active, Daruk's Training Journal can be found in Yunobo's house after he found it at the Abandoned Northern Mine. Once the EX Champion Daruk's Song is completed, Daruk applauds Link's completion of the test he himself went through and reduces the cooldown time, and tells him that if he sees Ganon, addressing the beast as "Ganon jerk" he requests to him to send a message to it in the form of "Good riddance, bacon breath!".

Daruk will give additional dialogue if Link chooses to repeat his fight with Fireblight Ganon. In the first dialogue, he asks Link to tell Yunobo that just like him, he was once a shy kid just like him and to work hard, look after the other Gorons and eat lots of rocks and when he does all that, he would possibly become stronger than him and implores him to do it. In the second dialogue, Daruk would ask Link if he recalled the day when they first met, and he never thought he would meet a Hylian as strong enough to call a true brother. He was shocked and recalled the look he made when he saw that and figures that it was better that he doesn't remember that part. In the third dialogue, Daruk tells Link to keep a secret for him and tells him of a monster that he met and hints about his bad experience with a dog and facing fears is no easy feat. In the fourth dialogue, Daruk deduces that Link's memory is still scrambled and suggests that he should find his training journal and figures it is still around somewhere and is surprised that Link has never known about it and tells him to go find it if he's curious. In the fifth and final dialogue, Daruk saw that Link had returned to test his skills again, and tells him that with the strength he mustered, defeating Calamity Ganon should be a piece of slate.

When Link finally faced the monster, he along with the other Champions fired a large laser beam in order to weaken Ganon allowing Link to destroy the physical form of the beast. Daruk rallies Link and tells Ganon to open up wide as he fires his laser.

Link eventually free Princess Zelda from captivity where she properly seals it away. After Ganon's defeat and Zelda's freedom, Daruk, the Champions, as well as King Rhoam are each above Hyrule Castle where they quietly bid farewell to the duo before they depart for the afterlife as Link and Princess Zelda begin putting Hyrule on the mend.

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]

The Calamity is Averted[]

A small Guardian from the doomed future of Hyrule named Terrako had arrived at the past where the second Great Calamity has yet to take place to warn Link, Zelda, and the Champions of what they are in for and seeks to change the course of history where Hyrule faces a brighter future. However, Ganon's Malice had pursued it and it possesses the Terrako from that timeline and it seeks to hinder the heroes from achieving this.

Daruk's meeting

Daruk leading the way to Death Mountain.

Link, Impa, and Princess Zelda travel to Goron City to seek a potential pilot for Divine Beast Vah Rudania, where they meet with Daruk and inquire of his assistance. Daruk happily accepts their calling without question and joins their journey up Death Mountain to get it working, but they are soon interrupted by a monster invasion of the Goron Southern Mines and must capture and defend the outposts to ensure it holds up. They managed to deal with an Igneo Talus and Daruk takes an immediate liking to Link for his efforts and notes that his appetite is as big as his own. They eventually find Vah Rudania at Death Mountain's crater and took control of it and lead a counterstrike against all the monsters attacking the city and blasts off the Igneo Taluses as well, while he had some trouble controlling Rudania. Once the dust cleared, Daruk gives Link some Prime Rock Roast as a reward and Link eats it with a straight face and is disappointed that he didn't have enough for Impa and Zelda and promises to bring some for them next time.

AoC Mipha and Daruk 1

Daruk and Mipha bonding.

Once all four Champions are recruited, Daruk accompanies the group as they pass through Castle Town as Princess Zelda calibrates the Divine Beasts to make it easier for the Champions to utilize in the upcoming battle. He forms a brother-sister bond with the Zora Princess, Mipha, who asks him for help with her training, but their expedition and conversation are interrupted when Sooga and the Yiga Clan leads an attack against the town and Link and the Princess retreat into the building while the Champions take them down. It turned out to be a trap and Zelda is left vulnerable when they are too far away to help. Sooga throws the kunai at Zelda, only for Link to step in front of her to deflect them and Sooga issues a retreat to the Yiga Clan as a result. After that, Daruk joins them on their way to Korok Forest to retrieve the Master Sword there, and he stands up for Link when Revali begins acting up by questioning his leadership and showing clear distrust towards Link over him being the chosen hero and Urbosa does the same before the Rito Warrior summons Divine Beast Vah Medoh to clear up all the monsters that infest the area. With all of them gone, Revali lets them know that it's okay to proceed before rejoining the group.

AoC Mipha and Daruk 2

Daruk and Mipha disapproving of Revali's harsh words towards Link.

During their expedition, Mipha notes on the thick fog that condenses the forest, prompting Revali to make a complaint about going around in circles because of it. An annoyed Daruk tells him to fly up to find the right path, and Revali retorts that even if he did, he still would not be able to see and chastises Daruk for acting before thinking. Urbosa assures them that getting lost is nothing really to worry about, just the fact that they could be ambushed when they least expect it. Princess Zelda is the first person to notice Hestu desperately trying to get their attention, and he offers to show them the way, but is concerned about the monsters that inhabit the forest. Revali remarks that he can get around safely if he did not carry his maracas around, but Urbosa tells the Korok to ignore him and offers to protect him on their way to the clearing, making Hestu happy and asks them to follow him. They soon encounter strange appearances of Malice and evil doppelgangers of Daruk and the other three Champions appearing at the corners of the forest and defeating them all opens the way to the clearing. Link and Princess Zelda are soon ambushed by Astor and the Hollows, with the Mipha Hollow breaking Link's standard sword with her trident before making an attempt at Zelda's life with the three Hollows, on Astor's orders. Fortunately, Link pulls the Master Sword, and its light disintegrates the Hollows before they reached the princess and Link fights the seer, who eventually leaves while noting that the blade is too powerful for him. Daruk, Mipha, Revali, and Urbosa arrive at the clearing to speak with the Great Deku Tree, who tell them that they are now ready to face the Calamity, but he notices Zelda silently comparing Link's success to where she couldn't due to not yet having her sealing power and assures her not to lose hope and that her power will come.

AoC Mipha and Daruk 3

Mipha and Daruk converse.

From that point onwards, the princess begins to doubt her own potential on their way back to Hyrule Castle which is temporarily eased by Terrako's lullaby. In spite of the disruptions on the way back, Daruk, Link, Mipha, Revali, and Urbosa are dubbed official Champions and bestowed blue cloths that each display their Divine Beast emblems. Daruk ditches one of his chains and begins wearing the sash over his left shoulder and they hang out outside to rest from the long day. While Impa and Terrako are having a dispute, Mipha reminds Daruk about their conversation earlier and Daruk agrees to get down to it and she thanks him and hopes to fight alongside Link, but she soon becomes defensive when Link overhears this and approaches her and Revali is forced to flee in disgust when the scuffle between Terrako and Impa are done too close to his personal space. After these events Daruk and the Champions return home to prepare for the worst while King Rhoam, upon learning that Calamity Ganon is returning on Zelda's 17th birthday, orders the citizens to evacuate the area to keep the casualties to a minimum and the Hyrulean Soldiers are sent to Akkala Citadel and Fort Hateno to defend the garrisons. Akkala Citadel and Fort Hateno are extremely vital to Hyrule's survival and if any of those strongholds fall, Hyrule will fall as well.

On the day that Calamity Ganon is expected to return, Link, Impa, and Princess Zelda are departing to Mt. Lanayru where the Spring of Wisdom resided, and this was the latter's last chance to activate her power when their journey is cut short when Calamity Ganon's seal breaks and Hyrule Castle is enveloped by Malice. Daruk had returned via the Sheikah Tower when he noticed in disbelief at what just happened, and the Sheikah Towers across the land are soon powered down as well, cutting him off from the other Champions and left to fend for himself. Daruk then boards Vah Rudania but he finds Fireblight Ganon awaiting him and the two battle for control over the Divine Beast and Daruk refuses to fall as he shields himself from the monster's attacks. Fireblight delivers a strike at Daruk's forcefield, breaking it, knocking Daruk to the ground and tosses a large fireball at him to slay him. Daruk braces himself while remaining defiant to the bitter end, but then a time portal from Terrako appears and summons Yunobo from the future, who also generates a similar forcefield to block Fireblight's deadly blow. Daruk is surprised by his presence, and notes that he can also use Daruk's Protection.

Yunobo saves Daruk's life

Yunobo saves Daruk from Fireblight Ganon.

Yunobo replies that he's here to help. Both Daruk and Yunobo resume their battle with the beast, but the tides slowly turn against them and Yunobo finds himself at Fireblight's mercy before Daruk returns the favor, telling him to remain calm and Yunobo realizes that there isn't a point in helping him if he is the one that constantly needs help. Yunobo's support to Daruk provided enough time for Link and the party to arrive (with Mipha's help in cooling the lava flow with her Divine Beast thanks to the adult Sidon saving her from Waterblight Ganon earlier) and assist them. With Fireblight Ganon destroyed, Mipha asks Sidon if he really is her brother, whom he confirms to be so while Daruk praises Yunobo and goes on to ask Princess Zelda about what had happened at the castle.

Once learning of the fate of Hyrule Castle, Daruk takes Yunobo and the latter gushes by calling him the Great Daruk, but Daruk tell him to stop with the formalities before proceeding to take out all of the outposts along the eastern reaches of Hyrule by protecting an allied stronghold, destroying bridges to prevent the corrupted Guardians from crossing over and obliterates those that already crossed and is eventually successful.

Yunobo and Daruk smiling

Yunobo and Daruk grinning.

In the Guardian of Remembrance DLC, Daruk and Yunobo, with Vah Rudania, have the mission to defend Kakariko Village from the monsters and the Yiga Clan led by Sooga and have successfully drove them away. As the civilians of Kakariko cheered for their victory, Yunobo saw how brave Daruk was compared to him and his insecurities of what he used to be got the better of him, to Daruk's concern. Yunobo explains that he was once a coward who had feared just about everything, until a certain friend (revealed to be Link) assisted him in finding his courage to stand up to anything. Daruk then grabs his arm and raises it into the air as they get another round of applause from the Sheikah citizens and proceeds to praise Yunobo for his efforts and expresses pride in his descendant, calling him the Champion of the Future and tells him to give that friend of his to give him his regards. Yunobo appreciates the commendation and feels better after that.

He and Yunobo, along with Mipha and Sidon, and Revali and Teba assist Urbosa and Riju by destroying the monsters that overwhelm them at Fort Hateno. Princess Zelda is successful in awakening her power by running back to save Link from Astor and the revived Blight Ganons, and Purah managed to create and activate a failsafe that disables the Guardian Stalkers that make up the large portion of Ganon's army, giving Hyrule a huge advantage. It is revealed that Master Kohga and the Yiga Clan have defected to Hyrule's side after Astor betrayed them by sacrificing the Yiga Footsoldiers and using their souls to revive the Blight Ganons in desperation due to the Champions being saved from imminent death by the elemental demons. After Link and company secure the Great Plateau, Zelda had reunited with her father, Rhoam, whom she thought was dead. He explains that the device that she gave him earlier turned out to be an Ancient Guardian Shield that he used to deflect the lasers back at the Guardians and he and the Royal Guard make a run for it. He then reconciles with Zelda and rallies the troops to take the fight to Hyrule Castle where Ganon resided.

Daruk and Yunobo await orders

Daruk and Yunobo await orders.

Purah gets the Sheikah Towers working again and summons the Champions and the Divine Beasts, as well as the armies consisting of Hylian, Zora, Goron, Rito, Gerudo, Sheikah, and the Yiga Clan and unites them all to launch a full-frontal assault. The Champions deal a heavy blow with their lasers from their Divine Beasts to weaken Ganon, the Blood Moon rises and revives all the fallen monsters, but despite that, they persevered as Zelda leads them to Hyrule Castle where they have to contend with two of the dark messengers, Astor and Harbinger Ganon. The warriors eliminate all four of the Blight Ganons and defeated Astor and Harbinger Ganon. Astor completely loses his mind and orders Ganon to destroy the heroes, but as Sooga had forewarned, Ganon consumes the deranged prophet instead to take on a new form and some of its malice takes control of Terrako, which Link, and Zelda have to battle. After Terrako is horribly damaged, Daruk and all of the Champions mourn its state and Terrako's lullaby allows Zelda to recall the fact that Terrako had been there for her during her childhood. The princess is furious and swears vengeance upon Ganon, vowing that she will make sure that it will fall before giving chase to the sanctum where Calamity Ganon awaited them. At the start, Calamity Ganon proved to be too much for the heroes, with them being unable to make a dent on the beast, so Zelda resorts to trying to seal it with her power. Her light brings Terrako back to life and it runs upstairs, hopping between the princess and Ganon, destroying itself and penetrating Ganon's defenses and Zelda is even more determined with the Champions. Their attacks are now effective, and Ganon was weakened enough to be cleaved by Link's Master Sword and Zelda sealing it away for good and Hyrule is soon at peace. Satisfied the group look at the peaceful state of the kingdom and Terrako's screw uses the last of its power to send Sidon, Yunobo, Teba, and Riju back to their time, but not without them saying good-bye to their predecessors and Princess Zelda wishes them light in their future and promises to never forget the miracles that occurred thanks to them.

Yunobo and Daruk's parting

Yunobo and Daruk say good-bye.

Daruk participates in helping rebuild Terrako by searching for its fifty components and bringing them to the Royal Ancient Lab where Robbie and Purah are reconstructing the little Guardian. At first, they were worried since Terrako wasn't responding, but Revali assured them that it is still waking up, which Impa agrees with and tries to wake it up by smacking it until the princess stops her and steps in front of it. Eventually, Terrako springs back to life, much to the Champions' relief and is once more reunited with Princess Zelda. During the end credits following Terrako's revival, it is seen visiting Goron City, where Daruk jumps for joy in greetings. He is seen once more at Hyrule Castle with all the warriors present and he pulls his friends in for a group hug.

In the secret DLC ending, Daruk and Yunobo are sitting atop of the cliff, eating some Prime Rock Roast together and eventually meets with the other Champions, present and future, to talk among themselves and are entertained by Terrako. Later, Daruk and the other Champions are seen at the top of a Sheikah Tower, all back into their original attire, as they watch Zelda and Terrako float away on a paraglider. Princess Zelda admires the scenery and notes that their efforts in defending the kingdom of Hyrule are truly worth it.
