[edit]Old Welsh chweith from Proto-Celtic *swexto- (“taste”) from Proto-Indo-European *swekʷto-, with the e-grade of the root *swekʷ- (“sap, juice”) also reflected in *sokʷós (“juice of plants”). Related to Proto-Germanic *swakkuz (“smell, odor, scent”), Ancient Greek ὀπός (opós, “juice”), Proto-Balto-Slavic *sakás (“juice of plants”).[1][2]
