- a traditional cowboy (vaquero) from Northern Peru
- the distinctive costume worn by a chalan, including a linen poncho, a straw sombrero, etc.
- (by extension) a gallant
- (colloquial, Mexico, El Salvador) an assistant or helper of a contruction worker, especially of a mason or painter
