Particularly: “The second element is likely the same as in ngoại ô (suburbs). It was spelled as in texts, but I'm not sure it's actually (MC 'uX) etymologically or just a case where there's a convenient semantically matching graph at hand. Tonal correspondence isn't great though.”

Nowadays, this term seems to refer to gates of the fortified core of historical Hanoi. Some of these old city gates lent their names to modern toponyms like Ô Chợ Dừa.
