Tea room discussion

Note: the below discussion was moved from the Wiktionary:Tea room.

I just read http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,24486511-2,00.html and was wondering: why would you call “Taxi!” if you hear someone breaking a glass? Maybe someone can add that usage? H. (talk) 15:30, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I doubt it's a different sense; it seems to imply that if a glass breaks, someone may have had too much to drink, and they need a taxi. sewnmouthsecret 15:37, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why only TOC at level 1?

[edit]

Why is there only one TOC level on this page (unlike most other pages)?

For example, the page et (with 32 languages) has a TOC to at least level 4 (e.g. 2.2.1.1).

taxi down the runway etymology

[edit]

Connection of "taxi down the runway" to main etymology not clear.

Is it because sometimes taxicabs move slowly or something? Say so.

Mention how e.g., paying taxes is related to "taxi down the runway"? Jidanni (talk) 18:25, 15 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
