     Between 1958 and 1960, a collaboration was initiated between the Association for Computing Machinery and the Gesellschaft für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik for the definition of a universal algorithmic language, first denoted IAL, later ALGOL58, and finally ALGOL60.
